Hey guys the following picture is of a cool mod that I saw on a car and I want to try doing it. The caption is ,"I added a custom gauge enclosure on the dash then painted it." HE has a second hood that is installed above the factory one. Should I buy a small hood scoop and mount it?? Any advise would be nice. Also SHould I use fiberglass resin to mold the cluster or Body Filler??

I was going to suggest fiberglass. I would make sure you want to do, its going to require you to cut a hole in the dash to run wire.

Ya I realize that but Im already going to be doing damage to the dash by installing it anyways so what the heck you know?? How should I form it??

Where did you find the pics of that dash?

Also one other thing...

I would try working with fiberglass on something else before you tackle your dash. Not saying you cannot do it. Its just a dash is something that will stand out on your car. Make sure you do it right the first time and goodluck.

A 2nd hood installed on top of his first one? What you mean?

I think he is talking about the "hood" meaning the covering over the tach and gauges. So a 2nd hood would be the half circle gauge pod above the tach. And id def listen to 98RedGS' idea about doing the fiberglassing on something else first. Its not all that hard, its just that if youve never done it and you screw it up on your dash, then your on the way to buying a new one or having a crap looking mod.

I found this mod on car domain .com I have posted the link the guys car is pretty crazy but I really like this mod. Ive just never seen it before.
And by hood yes I do mean the cover over the gauges but I think that the technical term is a "hood" because of the way that it covers. Correct me if Im wrong.
Ive worked with fiberglass before but I was mostly wanting to know how to make the shape. IF I found something with a shape close to that I could cover it with tape and just go to work with fiberglass and resin.
I suppose???? I dont do mods unless they will look good so of course I would practice.

thanks

ya form it over anything that has that sort of shape.
if ya cant find anything.. ya could use uhm... hell anything really.
i did this with just stuff i had right here by me as an example,
its a piece of thin plexiglass with guitar pedals on each side to hold the shape.. ya could use a piece of wood the nail each end of the plexi were you want it to form the shape you want.. then fiberglass over it.
