My car has been high reving on start up ever since my new 1g tb swap. I've d/c throttle cables and it does the same thing.

So I readjusted the tps and it hit 4 grand it idled out smooth. So Now I narrowed it down, from what I read the tps tells the ecu when it's at open throttle so I'm assuming that is what's happening.

I read rre's instructions on adjusting it, but can someone explain it to me in lamen terms?

Like when it says:

"Turn the TPS all the way counter
clockwise.
5. Check for continuity in this condition.
6. Slowly turn the TPS clockwise until the point where continuity and
non-continuity is found (pins 3 and 4).

7. Tighten the TPS mounting bolts.
8. Check the voltage between pins 2 and 4 of the TPS with the ignition
switch on, but the engine not started.
9. Standard value: 400 - 1000 mV

The text in bold is what I do not get. What setting on the volt meter do I put it on to read this kind of measurment for each one?

While testing with any multimeter you should have a continuity/diode funtion. it looks like a one-way arrow. When you put this to any circuit thats open it should read .1(i.e. infinite resistance or open circuit). when the circuit is closed it will have a value, anything greater than .1

The only thing I don't understand is if they're asking you to tighten at the point where there is or isn't continuity; I would pressume right where it starts.

lastly for mV you should have an mV setting unless you have an auto-ranging multimeter, in which case 1mV = .001v [one-thousandth I believe]. Hope this helps

Like what 2point3Tsi said. Sometimes multimeters will have a symbo that looks like a horn or buzzer, this is also a continuity test. If you have continiuity (or a closed/complete circuit) it will buzz & when there isn't continuity it won't make a sound (or an open circuit). You can also check for continuity with an ohm scale. He correct on the voltage as well, most multimeters will have a mV scale (you want a DC scale to if the meter has both), if not a low range DC voltage scale will work as well just won't be as accurate. 400 to 1000 mV is .4 to 1 Volt.

Oh, I get it. I understand how to read measurments, but I still don't understand how to check for continuity and non-continuity.

Are they saying that should happen at the same time? Explain please, how this would appear on my volt meter.
