horrible screech from rear end

ive recently developed a problem of a loud screech coming from the drivers side rear axle/tire area.
i got under the car today, and can confirm its coming from there.
first the axles are newish, in very good shape still.
i turn the tire as if its going forward, and its fine, but reverse the direction every rotation or so at slow speeds you get a horrible noise.
is there something wrong with a bearing or something?
any ideas are appreciated thanks.

are you fwd or awd?
im almost sure mine is coming from my axle hub area. just dont know whats inside there that would go nuts.

i was thinking mabye it was the rear brake pads possibly because it happened when rolling backwards.

Have you tried a softer brand toiletpaper?

Sorry, I just thought it had to be said.
If you have a screech from the back when backing up, it would likely be the wear indicators on the rear pads. Also, check the Ebrake shoes, if the ebrake was ever left on (accidentally of course) you could wear them to metal. Just like a regular drum brake they ride close to the surface. that could do it if the disc pads look good.
