homemade octane info?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

The thing is MMO is not sold in Canada anywhere anymore. People here just suggest using plain Automatic Tranny Fluid for lubrication. I would think it doesnt have the cleaning properties MMO does. What can be used in place of MMO?

What is MMO?
I don't use any other kind of junk to mix with it... just Xylene and 93pump gas

you need lubrication with the octane. Xylene straight will strip the gas in there of the lubricating agents.

MMO is marvel mystery oil. It cleans and lubricates, but it is not sold here.

Where could I buy Xylene? I'm going to the track on the 20th and funds are very minimal right now and I'm trying to squeeze out every little bit. Would Home Depot have any or how about a Sherwin Williams paint store? thanks a lot guys

I've been researching this alot the last couple of days, you've probably seen the other thread I started on here. Any ways from what I've found this will not harm your car. Pump gas already has toluene in it, Sunoco and I'm assuming other gas companies use this to make their higher octane fuels. Just don't use too much and be sure to add a lubricant, mmo or tranny fluid.

I don't know about where you live, but where I'm from no one sells toluene anymore. It has been taken off the market because of its popularity with huffers using it to get high. I'm going to try xylene tomarrow night, it is very similar to toluene and is also used by all the gas companies.

You can also just toss a few moth balls in the gas tank....

or if you're really cheap, mix it with mothballs. Never done it myself, but some v8 pro-drag racer told me it works. To me, this is an unreliable source. Any comments.

myth busters just tried this like 10 min ago, they did not dyno or test the fuel but the motor ran and ran well......who wants try it on a dyno?

SCC actually just did a good article in their most recent issue on store bought octane boosters as well as "homeade" (toulene). Very in depth and good wright-up. Check it out. May be surprised at the results...I was.

Unfortunately, buying a gallon of Xylene runs somewhere around 12.00 or so. Might as well put in a Denso 02 sensor that will handle the lead, gut the cat and mix in some 110 for 3.00/gallon. If Xylene was cheaper, I'd do this all the time.

Damn solvent prices!
