Home Depot intake mod

everyone flaming on this guy should be ashamed of themselves, look this is what its all about helping some guy do a mod that if they had to buy an aftermarket unit they may never do it! he should be commended not condemned. you would never see amfg. meet you and show you how to build their product and make zilch for profit! keep up the good work bud, i know it's not the prettiest or whatever but if you make it and it makes you or your customers happy then keep on doing it, and don't listen to the naysayers. If they got a problem then they should go to another thread and kkep their mouthes shut.

p.s. I have a Injen intake so it's not like i'm a customer of his but with his attitude i certainly would be. PEACE!!!!

ha well mine i cut off the stock tubing right where the ribbed part starts after the hose for the bov. just used some nice aluminum intercooler piping from a 7.3 powerstroke. much smoother flow than the ribbed rubber and a little straighter. plus mine has that heat wrapping on it to keep temps better.

So I went and built myself a Home Depot intake as described but I just wasn't happy with the fitment. Too little space down by the turbo inlet with all those cooland and intercooler pipes in the way.

So I looked around the plumbing department and found a reducer that slides into a 3" pipe end and allows a 2" pipe to slide inside of it. This allowed me to use a 3" elbow up top and reduce to a 2" elbow for the bottom and just use a 2" coupler from that section to the turbo inlet.

I also decided to go with a threaded copper tube for the BOV return line. I still used some liquid nail around it but I felt it would hold very tight and so far it does.

I'm sure this intake is a little more restrictive, but it also straightens up the airflow before it hits the compressor.

I'd be curious to see some track numbers on the difference if anyone wants to test it. (I won't be.)

rather type in here than start a whole new thread. if i were to make such an intake on a 2g, i would for sure need a filter adapter, and the 3" coupler has to be rubber in order to fit the mas?

thanks

fill out your profile with the mods on your car.

if you have a 2g, just get the EBAY one, it comes with everything for around $40 shipped. check my review in the review section.

Id be interested in making one of the cold airs I seen but where do you put your MAS?

read your review. think ill just go for an ebay one. saves the hassle for building. Are the filter heads any good on those though?
