HKS Kevlar Timing Belt

I just installed an HKS kevlar timing belt and a BLE manual tensioner. I've noticed a very slight whining noise since doing so, kinda like supercharger whine but very quite, you have to listen very closely to hear it. Is this caused by the kevlar belt or do I have it tensioned too tight. I'm not real sure how tight it should be.

The whine is from the belt being too tight. Depending on how tight it is you can leave it and let it "wear" in. If its waay too tight loosen it up a bit.

How do you know if it's way too tight? How much slack should it have? I can move it a bit under the exhaust gear a bit. I drove it for 35 miles like it sits.

Well I've got 150 miles on the belt now and there is more slack under the cam gear towards the tensioner, but it is still whining a bit.

Is there a specific reason why you bought the solid tensioner? The OEM hydraulic tensioner lasts a long time. The solid tensioner requires constant adjustment to account for belt stretching. Even the kevlar belt you bought will stretch.

There sure is, the stock tensioner went out and i replaced it with a brand new one. Well that one didn't make it a month before it broke. The little rod that comes out to push on the tensioner pulley broke. So i get another new one and it proceeds to loose pressure. So i'm not gonna put another hyd one on there. My understanding of kevlar is that it stretches very little. So once it stretches initially you should make an adjustment and it should be good for quite some time.

Did you used an OEM tensioner? I don't see how you got two new tensioners and both were defective unless you failed to tension it properly.

The first was OEM the second was a Cloyes.

Well, since you already bought the solid tensioner, I'm pretty sure there's a belt deflection limitation in the FSM, Haynes, or Chiltons.

you wouldnt buy an hks timing belt from greddy and so on,you can get it from alot of places,maperformance or hks
