i bought a 1992 laser turbo about a month ago and the guy that had it before me let it sit for a year. i have recently been driving it and noticing a lot of 1st 2nd and 3rd gear poping out problems (my brother is convinced its synchroes) and they are frequent.
i also have a high idle problem. i start it and it idles right at 2500 and sometimes it will come down to 2000 rpm's my idle cable isnt tight so i dont know what it could be.. im new to dsm's help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Popping out of gear has nothing to do with the syncro. The syncro is just a brass ring that slows the gear down when you go to switch gears. It has nothing to do with holding the slider in place. If it is popping out of those gears than i would suspect a problem with the bearings on the main and counter shaft, a problem with the shift forks, or possibly just an issue with the bushings on the shift cables. For the idle, i would suspect that the biss screw is not adjusted properly, a vacuum leak, improperly operating fiav or iac.

what is the biss screw and how do you go about adjusting it? and as for the vaccum leak strong possibly and the fiav, how would that not be operating properly?
as for the tranny do you reccomend i talk to a trans rebuilder?

This site has good info on how to adjust the biss. Click on intake in the blue box at the top of the page then scroll down till you see the idle speed adjustment 1g page. For the transmission i would first check the bushings in the end of the cables where they hook to the transmission linkage. http://www.vfaq.com/index-main.html

alright. thanks i will look into adjusting my BISS screw doesnt seem complicated and i hope it helps therefore my trans. is it hard to replace bushings and bearings on a trans if youve never done it beofre?
