Ok everyone, here is a question for you, and I am about 99.9 % sure this is no where else (seeings how I've been looking for days).

Ludacris raps about a "hideaway" license plate. I want this. If someone can come up with a solid idea on how to make this work, let me know and I will pay for labor and parts. What I want exactly is a license plate that maybe folds up under my bumper or has little shutter type things that close in front of it (flush mounted in the bumper of course). I want it to do this by an electrical switch also.

This will enable me to run down the highway and have it gone and not be able to be seen by cops or the damn cameras above stop lights now. But when pulled over for "not having a license plate" I can just hit my switch before he comes and say "But officer, its right up there, are you feeling alright?"

I know this idea sounds stupid but its just one of those things. Lets see if any of you out there are as good as you think you are and lets see if anyone is up for a little challenge.

"When they tell you that it can't be done, thats when you do it"

Thanks for reading my article and yes, this will be posted in another forum or two so I can make sure the right people see it. If you see it again and have already read it .... skip over it .... don't give me holy hell about it please.

Thanks and good luck

That's probably going to cost alot of money just to be able to say the words "But officer, its right up there, are you feeling alright?". It's not going to stop them from pulling you over matter of fact it may get you pulled over alot more. And police aren't stupid once they find out what it is, you are going to have to pay all that money to get it put back right. Unless you run redlights daily i don't think it's worth it. You can buy some spray for like $13 that reflects pictures. Or you could just not run redlights and drive legal.:thumb:

Just mount it like i have mine (sig) and have some thing that drops down in front of it.

Thank you I appreciate your sarcasm. I did not post this so I could run every red light that I approach and its not JUST to say those words. And if I cared about the money yes, I would have just spray painted it. But thanks anyway for your oh so worthy advice.

This is for fun man, relax. There is life beyond cars.

I was just going by what you said. I don't really know what else it could be for. Care to share??? Maybe i'll want one too. Try looking or posting in the nonperformance forum.

Come on man, lets not tarnish to the DSM image. We have enough people missinformed and drive like idiots. Having such an item is cool for a "SHOW" type car, but to have it for the sole purpose of breaking the law, well, that is not cool.

I see you posted it in the nonperformance section, the answer Dave gave you is probly the closest you will get. Construct it with an electric motor from RadioShak and there ya go. But please do this for show and not go.
:)

i've seen someone with a plate that will pull itself under the bumper.. really weird.. no idea where to get one though

as for the cameras... www.loover.com *shrug*

Oh it is definately for show. I am just trying to find some things to set myself apart from the crowd. Its a small step but I think its just another one of those "Hey, I don't see that very often sort of things.

Are you kidding me? Don't be an ass and speed all the time, or run red lights either. Sorry to flame, but it's ***** like you that get people killed.

I've actually seen that device advertised on one of those car TV shows.
Not the "2 guys and a garage" show.
It's the one where this guy fixes up trucks(mostly for off road use but he does show lowriders). He's the guy that fixed up a kids brand new white jeep with a wench, snorkle, suspension(lift) upgrade, etc, etc.
If that rings a bell with anyone, chime in.

He showed the device as a mod for show vehicles. You pull on a cable and it retracts backward hiding the plate and it's mount.

Sorry I can't remember the name of the show or the company that makes it.

EDIT** I think the show was called "Trucks"

Cutout the top of your plate bracket and your bumper where the plate is mounted. Then put a door hinge on the inside. Mount your plate only on the cut out part, then run a string or cable from the back of your plate to the inside of your car, when you pull on it the plate will move forward like so:

Yea, I've seen show cars at SEMA or NOPI with these actually. I've seen some that flip the plate all the way around to a blank plate, then flip it back. I'm sure you can think up something to make this work, motors, cutting and sealing.. but don't break the law :thumbdown
unless your racing some little punk ass civic ricer boy with 400 extra lbs of sh*t on his car and he thinks its fast when its really a DX no vtec and has a fine ass girl with him, and he keeps reving it up and laughing.....ahh n/m.

The guys name is Stacy David and he is the host, producer, and designer. The name of the show is "Trucks"

Anything automotive is what I am into. I watch them over and over again. Got to know what you are going to be up against. Hell, those V8 that they show on "Horsepower TV" with Joe Elmore and Chuck Hansen are our #1 competition. I want to know as much about them as I do about my DSM.:thumb:

I'm the same way. They're on back to back all the time(watch them all).

Back to the original question. I also saw where a person went to the junkyard and found a spring loaded hinge of an old cars license plate. I'm talking about the cars where you had to pull down the license plate to get to the gas cap. When you let go of the plate, it pops back up.

Well this person took that hinge and made something work. The problem was once it snapped up into the hidden position, you would have to get out of the car to extend it back down.

Back in the era of the Iron Curtain, the Soviets used vehicles w/ numerous headlight and plate combinations. As they were tailing whomever they were watching, they would change plates and headlights so as not to alert who they were following to thier presence.

:sigh: Dang guys, would you stop raggin and have a little fun. Whats the harm in talking about something in a forum. No ones out robbing banks and killing people. Just askign questions about cars.

I'd buy one of those things if I had a problem with getting caught on camera while driving like an asshatclown. Its not even required to have a front license plate in my state so wtf.

If a cop spots you speeding why not just bail out at around 25mph and hit the nearest crowded or wooded area. No ticket then.

That plateholder inst worth 100$, they must be crazy if they want so much, if it came with a little motor to wind things up that'll be a different thing.

I agree. may as well get a door hinge or something.

I actually designed something I'd never seen before. It consists of two thin sheets of glass or plexi glass and a thin layer of clear liquid between them that turns solid black when an electronic charge is put to it. Pretty illegal though, I still haven't even tried to put a finished unit together because I live in CA and the cops would shoot me for even thinking about it (not really:) )

can you explain this a little better please? I am really curious about it. Thanks;)

Here's something that seems to work. Kinda pricey and too bad they are only for European size plates. It would be cool if they made something like this for window tinting. Then you could be like "Officer, what do you mean my tint is too dark? My windows are even tinted." LOL
