Hey all,

I have a stuttering problem with my 95 Talon NT with a set of specific conditions. All stock, no zoom zoom gadgets at all.

First, outside air temp is around 40 degress F. or less

Second, only between 2.5K and 3K on the tach.

Third, after 15 or 20 minutes at highway speed I slow down to go through a town and the problem disappears. Sometime it comes back and sometimes it does not.
Other than this problem the car runs beautiful, small problem with a valve tick and sometimes it will die at a stop but does not idle rough at all.

Error Codes:
2GNT.com - PCM_Error_Codes

11 Mainly dealing with cam and crank sensors
15 Speed Sensor, known problem needs to be replaced
43 Multiple problem sources

After alot of research on this site I've come to a few conclusions.

Cam and crank sensors, doubtfull if those were bad the car would not run at all. If the were loose then the problem would be continuous not at a specific range.

Dirty EGR valve- maybe, needs to be cleaned. California emissions, moved out of state and no emissions to worry about now.
Fuel pump, maybe not sure at all on that but I dont think so.
Fuel Filter-maybe, needs to be changed.
PCV valve- doubt it but who knows.
Plugs and wires-less than 3K old.
Dirty Injectors- Multiple bottles of lucas cleaner less than 3K.
MAP,Temp sense,ICS-All cleaned very carfully and tenderly.
Throttle Body- Carefully cleaned.

I've done as much research as I can and have found some similar topics but nothing specific.

First of all I would suggest that you provide the actual OBDii codes. Based off the link you posted I'm assuming the codes you're referring to are PO335, PO500, and some sort of misfire code. Based off the information given I would suspect your crankshaft position sensor has failed or is malfunctioning. This would explain the p0335 code and misfire code. In opposition to what you said, your car can run with a malfunctioning crank sensor and symptoms like you're describing would suggest that being the problem. If I were you I would start there.

You might check the connector on the coil pack. The round pins they used on the 95's are notorious for bad connections. I have a similar condition and if I spray the connector with WD40 the condition goes away for awhile. Last week I replaced the coil pack with one out of a 98 and snagged the 98 wiring as well, the flat pin kind, and I thought it was fixed till today when it stuttered once:ohdamn:.

So maybe I should start looking at the crank sensor or it's connector.

Thanks for the input gents. Sorry it took so long to reply, been working 10 to 12 hour days, 6 to 7 days a week.

DSMlover2011: i'll use the real codes from now on.

Checked the wires going to the coil and they seem fine.

Replaced PCV valve. Hoses came apart in my hand, so new hoses too. PCV valve is original.

Going to do the full Seafoam treatment also, not sure if it will clean the EGR valve but it might.

When I get the money together I will be replacing the fuel filter and Crank senser. Going to a local shop I trust to get this done. I just dont have the time, space and proper weather (no garage) to do this myself. Going to have the mech. look for oil and water leak down the back of the engine, might be fouling the Crank sense wires and possibly the speed sense wires. 5 years ago I had to add a new connector for the speed sense and the splice might be getting wet even though I sealed it as best I could.

I'll let you know how things go as I get them done.

UPDATE

Drove home from work yesterday afternoon. No sputtering what so ever. Ran perfectly fine. Try to start the car the next morning, lots of crank no start. Got home checked the fuel pressure, none. Check for spark, none.

Going to keep searching the forums to see what I can find.

Decided that you gents were correct and that it looks like a bad Crank sensor can cause no fuel pressure and no spark. Only problem is finding the right one. I have seen 4 differant kinds out there. I have only seen my Crank sensor once many years ago and this is the closest one I could find.
