Hey there, Names brian. I drive a ford ranger and deliver pizza, I landscape full time in summer and going to Wright state University in the fall. Theres a little about me. I've had two Fieros, an 84 and a 88. 88 was a v6 5 speed formula converted to gt style. Sold to get my 2002 ford ranger, only 2wd 4cyl. 32k. Installed a 3" body lift and installed 32's.
Theres a little about me, Im very firmiler with dsm's. My brother has a 95 talon esi. Friend has a 99 GSX with about 8000 into the engine now. I'm a do it your selfer with some tools. A girlfriends heated garage helps too.
Im in need of some help. I've done some work on the talon. Actually allot. This thing is in bad shape. Its a college car, stock and plan to keep it this way. My brother "in college" drives this thing to work, college, home and to his girlfriends house. It sees allot of highway and has high mileage. 175,???.
Thing that I have done.
Head gasket
Head cleaned and hot tanked
timing belt and pulleys
water pump
all belts
alternator
radiator
Allready started to rust in allot of places and just want this thing to last.
Doesnt sound good. Seems like the timing is off or running on 3 cylinders.
Exhaust has leaks and I need to weld up somthing new and quiet.
Headliner is falling and is held up by pins.
Seet doesnt lock into postitions higher than driving like a pimp.
The problem now is this sound in the front. Its when you go straight and turn right. When you turn left its gone. sounds loud and annoying, still does it in neutral and when braking. I came to the conclusion its a wheel bearing. I purchased a wheel bearing hub assembly. This seems like the only part that can be the problem. Thought he lower ball joint is going, ball joints dont make this groaning sound.
I have gotten most everything off and cannot get the axle out of the hub. I've rented a 3 prong puller to push it through, didnt work and a slide hammer that also didnt work. I need to get the axle out to take the hub bolts out. hub bolts dont come out until you remove axle. (in the way).
Im in need of help. Ive been thinking and have an idea. I think I could take the whole hub assembly off with axle. Hub assembly is bolted to the front arm. I need to take off all ball joints and such. I want to see if a shop, Mabye napa can push the axle through with a press. Is this a good idea? Will this damage the axle? And am i even replacing the right part? I mean the only thing could be an axle, but why would it stop making sound when i turn left? Must be bearing.
Thanks again and if you have any tips on anything else. Like the running like crap part, how to adjust timing or fixing his seat it would be great!
Im letting him use my ranger for a little so i can fool with his car. So the sooner the information comes the better! thanks!
