Well I diagnosed a problem I had as the o2 sensor, anyway I got the special socket but it doesn't fit. The waterpipe doesn't clear it. The car has an aftermarket o2 housing thats for sure and I can't get the socket in there. Will a normal box wrench work?

I got a crows foot 1/2 attachment and used my breaker bar to crack mine loose. Works every time.

A box end wrench will work if thats all that you have. Prefer to use a o2 socket. But if thats not what you have then you have to make due. If you have a set of line wrenchs that will fit the o2 sensor that would also be better than a box end wrench.

Like previous posters have said, an O2 socket, crow's foot, or a line wrench will work great. I've used a line wrench numerous times and it's always worked great for me! If you do use the box wrench just be careful and don't strip anything out, that would suck!

Got it off, surprisingly it was not hard at all. It took no effort which Kind of scares me. I had to force in the socket to make it clear. Anyway it came off and I replaced it. Hopefully my crappy mileage problems are solved now!

Just did mine yesterday. 1g's are a real pain due to the lack of clearance between the o2 dump and the dipstick tube. I ended up breaking off the top of the old 02, throwing a 7/8 impact socket and a 12" extension and impacting it off. Finger tight the new one in, then lock it down with a box end wrench (1/16 of a turn at a time.) It was annoying and tedious, but not that difficult.

I did my rear o2sensor last September and was under my car for over an hour attempting to take the damn thing off. Finally said screw it and went to a buddys shop spotted him a $20. They had to torch it because it was so rusted on. My arm was sore for 2 days after that. ROFL
