 Whats up guys I am a newb to this forum. I tried doing a search on this topic but found no results. I am changing my timing belt this weekend and :( I would like to advance the timing but I do not know what degree to set it to. I have a 95eclipse N/T with a turbo kit and it is also an automatic. Thanks

I was told since it not a high compression engine and if I wasto run 10psi of boost I needed to advance the timing so my motor wont blow up. Is this true?

Advancing your valve timing by moving it a few teeth could be catastrophic to your valves...especially when they smash into your piston tops. You probably meant to advance your ignition timing right? By changing your base timing.

but you wouldnt want to advance your ignition timing with forced induction.

^ you could a tiny bit ...we are all looking for more power aren't we? and advanced timing is the key to certain point.

with good tuning and/or higher octane gas yes

god-damnit. stop with all the wrong information.

you do not want to advance your timing for any reason if you plan on running boost.

Rather than just telling everyone they are wrong would you care to explain why?

yes please do explain

The first post says he is asking about valve timing. Because he is asking about the timing belt. To answer that first post no you do not have to adjust the timing just because you are running 10 psi of boost. There are several people running 20+ pounds of boost with no adjustments to the timing.

Now they would not make adjustable cam gears for our cars if the timing was never intended to be adjusted. The thing is if you do not know anything about adjusting timing then you should not mess with this one bit.

there are reasons you adjust timing. Fuel, big cams, BOOST, nitrous. You have to have a dyno to determain what you need to do. When running boost, you want to retard the timing a little bit. This makes it a little safer for running that high shot. When you have big cams, you really have to play with it. You might need to advance your intake a little so you can get enough air to support that cam. Timing is not something you want to mess with. If you have to ask about timing, don't touch it.

I have AEM adjustable cam gears, but they are staying at 0 until I get to a dyno. Even then, I probably won't need to adjust them until I get my new fuel system.

If any of this information is wrong, I appoligize. I don't pretend to know everything.
