Im having a problem with getting the crank pulley off. I went and rented a 3 jaw puller but i cant seem to get it off. What did yall put in the hole were the crank bolt came out. I was told not to put the crank bolt in there when trying to pull off the pulley. So what do you put in there. I tryed to just let the middle bolt of the 3 jaw puller but i was scard that it would strip the inside or somthing. Any help would be great.

You need a special puller for the crank pulley. It's a standard 3 jaw but with a rod that goes into the center of the pulley. Most autoparts stores should carry it. Just tell them it's a chrystler motor and they should be able to help you out. Whatever you do DO NOT try makeing your own rod out of something. I tried it and failed at the expence of the crank!

Im not going against what rex said but i just found a bolt and put it in there came off nice and easy. or you could try the old hammer trick.

I'm not saying a bolt wouldn't work and maybe mine was just stuck on from sitting for so long but nothing but the tool worked. We even tried the hammer and all it did was shatter the outer edge of pulley. The bolt we used actually mushroomed and snapped before the pulley came off and got stuck in the crank.

When I put a smaller bolt in there the thing just drilled a hole through the top of the bolt and it did look like it moved no were. Do you have a picture of what the other 3 jaw puller looks like?

the puller you have will work fine, when i pulled mine i used a 3/8 drive extention. place that in the crank bolt hole, then put your puller on so that it is pushin against the extention ( female end) she will pop right off.. let me know if yo have any other questions i just went through this myself :thumb:

I've done this method as well. I want to say I've also tried a used head bolt, but I'm not sure. Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference.

Plus the right puller you are talking about is called a Chrysler Harmonic Dampner Puller. It makes the difference.
