I've got a recent problem:

When my boost hits above, let's say ~8psi... the engine just revs higher, with no additional power gained - in fact, it feels as if power was lost - as if I engaged the clutch or something.

Known Issues: Blown Rings, although they've been (mildly) blown for awhile now, and nothing has changed in the car's setup since then. This is a new development.

Ideas?

Also, if anyone can point me in the direction/URL of a detailed walkthru for repairing the rings/engine overhaul on a 2g Turbo (AWD in this case), i'd be more than a little grateful!!!

Thanks guys~

Sounds like a worn out clutch. How many miles on your disk, which disk do you have and how much power are you making?

I second that. Do you smell something that smells similar to burning brakes when that happens?

Stock clutch, ~80k, and this isnt when racing - I know the burning clutch smell all too well. This is just in daily driving, like climbing a hill, or accelerating in general. Anytime i get past a few psi it seems.

However, from the time I DO remember burning my clutch (racing), it had a similar feel - in gear, but revving without transfering to the wheels... however, I haven't noticed the burning clutch smell - although I feel it right away and let off the gas when it kicks in, so it shouldnt be having the same dramatic effect of a burned launch.

Could this be happening even at this low of throttle/boost?

I have an ACT 2600 + flywheel sitting in my garage, but it's been backburned ever since i started getting blowby and launching my dipstick... i figured what's the point of harnessing power i can no longer safely (or effectively) make.

well id personally get that ring problem fixed because it is not good at all to drive around like that and it does sound like a clutch problem there along with many other things.

This happens to me in 4th gear. I have a load and get on the boost, but no increase in power. Clutch is fine but it turned out to be the spark plugs. Check that and see if it helps. Maybe since the rings were bad oil got onto the spark plugs.

Do either of you have a means of logging knock or timing? What you guys are describing sounds like phantom knock. Do a search on phantom knock if you don't know what it is, there are numerous causes for it ranging from the timing belt to motor mounts. Get a logger and see if your timing goes crazy retarded when it bogs. It's a bi*** to get rid of in many cases and the easiest way out is with DSMlink or a standalone.
