Rebuilt 7 bolt, 57trim bb. The oil light never used to flash. Since putting the engine back in it flashes at speed, not at idle. About 100ft from my house it came on and stayed(got a little dim ON and OFF), so i parked the car. And if it is just a bad sensor, then why would it flash sometimes and then just stay on?

Oil pressure is good at start up and at speed. If the nose of the car is facing downward on an incline then i do not have any oil pressure. If its facing upwards then i have a LITTLE. Im still using the factory guage. Bought an aftermarket one but havent put it on yet. Now i am kinda scared to put it on because i dont want to run it with the light on any longer.

Any ideas guys?

Hook up your new oil pressure guage out of the car. Just hook it up real quick like and observe the guage. Speed the engine up and down. I'd have to agree with the others too, it sounds like a bad connection or bad sending unit.

I think that it is something simple like the sending unit or just a loose connection. Like Defiant said, if you have low oil pressure or just low oil levels, you can HEAR it very clearly when you start and drive the car.

Since my car spun a rod bearing, I put a mechanical oil pressure gauge in my N\T and I like it a lot. :thumb:

Ok, the thing i didnt tell you guys is that the sensor on the front of the filter housing was not even plugged in, hasnt been for a while(broke). still think the same thing? why would a sensor that is not even plugged in flash and then just all of a sudden stay on? I went and bought another one today but havent had a chance to work on the car yet. I really appreciate the quick replies guys.

Put your new $4 sensor in, and a new connector on the wire that goes to it. Then you will have a working oil dummy light...
