Hello my fellow DSMers.

I've recently acquired a GVR4 (love it!) and I opened the ECU so I could use my stage 3 chip and to my surprise, the ECU was not an EPROM ECU. I've never needed to post on this site until now. However, I am trying to find a GVR4 socketted ECU or any GVR4 ECU? Any suggestions as to where to find one? What other ECU's will work with the VR4? I was told that this is the part number I need (MD165810).

Thanks,
Brian

The VR4 has a different maf sensor, so the compensation is different from a T/E/L. If your chip was burned for a Galant then you'll be fine. If it's not, then you'll need to get it changed.

Any 1g eprom will work, the 90 ecu will need to have pins 6 and 14 switched.

If I use any (GSX or GS-T) 1G Turbo ECU, would the all wheel steering still work? Would I need an AWD ECU? I just need some comfort before I make another $$$ purchase. By the way, thanks guys for the fast response. I hope to return the favor someday.

AWS doesn't interact with the ECU any more than the 2WS does.
Like I said before there are software differences between the GVR4 and DSMs. So only EPROM ECUs can be converted into a direct swap. The MAF, idle speed, and boost gauge are physically different requiring changes in the programming of the ECU.
Non-EPROM DSM ECUs will start the car but will perform sub-optimal.
