Help choosing new turbo

OK. Well after much research and a talk with a diesel turbo gurru, im leaning towards an FP Green. Although i didn't want to spend more than about $900, this seems like a good choice because it will bolt to all my existing components, and make the number i want. It has also been stressed to me to go with a ball bearing turbo.

What kind of numbers are typical of this turbo. Boost and Horsepower. Also, running the numbers, I wanted a 60trim turbo, and i believe the FP Green is a 50 Trim. hoiw does this compare, and is there a 60 trim turbo, that is ball bearing, and a mitsu bolt deal.

The FPgreen is a non ball bearing turbo 50 trim. You might as well buy a RS49 like I had if you want the same thing for less money.

If you are going Forced Performance you want the FP3052 ball bearing or possibly the bigger one that I have the FP3065.The FP3065 is like an FPRED non ball bearing the FP3052 is like an FPgreen non ball bearing. Both the red and FP3065 will have a pretty late spool up like 4800 on a 2.0 engine. I am running a bigger 2.4 so went with the FP3065 but would have gone with the FP3052 if was running a 2.0.

There are lots of reviews on the FP3052 and FP3065 on www.dsmtalk.com
The FPgreen is a very capable turbo also but a bit overpriced. The FP3052 and FP3065 use FP's custom o2 housings and require v band external gates. This makes them pricey but you won't find many complaints from users on either the FP3052 or FP3065.The fp green and red have also done some great times at the track.

My vote for a 2.0 is the FP3052.

If you go to the Victory Performance web site and look under projects that guy (Steve Hopkins) is interested in selling his set up. I think he wants $1450.00 for it which includes 60-1 BB turbo, 02 housing and wastegate. It was used very little. Less than 5000 miles. He wants to go bigger now. The set up made very good power. 411HP on pump gas.

Switzer tuned the car.

The fp green should make the power you want, when tunned properly but being a non BB turbo, you will probably looking at 4K or slightly higer spool time. I don't have personal expenience with this turbo but when I was asking forced performance about this turbo, they told me it wouldn't spool 20 psi by 3800, add in your comp 200 cams and the spool time will be slightly higher. You have to descide if you want to make lots of power or have fast spool, you can't have both. Now to help combat the spool vs hp thing, go with a BB turbo, such as the 3052 (the more expensive route), one of the PTE dual BB 50 trims or the SBR GT series turbos. With one of these you should hit your hp goal & still spool in the mid 3000's.

Whoops, i thought the FP Green was a ball bearing.

Whell, then that makes me want the FP 3052. I am concerned about having to change everything for the v-band style piping. They seem like a great idea, but its just more cost to change everything.

What about the apg turbos or somthing like that. I guess, what is the best BB turbo that can support 450 whp, and is still cost effective that uses mitsu housings.

Slowboy racing has some turbos that are straight bolt up on their site.I was going to get one but then decided to spend the extra for the FP3065. The slowboy you can get with internal gates and they will bolt up to standard 02 housings. FP3052 requires the 250 buck 02 housing and external tial v band gate. Both add to the cost of course.

I did see think a used FP3052 in classified. The FP housing is superior to the mits it looks like.FP turbos have put down very nice numbers.

Slowboy racing has a 20G 06 turbo called SBR Bastard 20G which is stuffed in a 16g compressor. If you get his turbo, you can keep your existing manifold and o2 setup. I'm sure there will be many people wanting to buy an EVO III 16G turbo.

Well, i called Forced Performance today and had a pretty lengthy conversation with them. I must say, it was the first turbo shop I have called yet that was actually willing to discuss options, explain things, and not treat me like some stupid teenager trying to spend mommy and daddy's money! They answered my questions, and explained to me the few things I was confused about!

I really think im gonna go with the FP3052. It has everything that I am looking for, minus the pricetag. But thats what I get. I just have to remember that theres usually a reason that good parts aren't cheap!

I am pretty sure you will love the FP3052 and price means little down the road.Quality means everything.

I get excited right now just looking at my FP3065.Even though its still in the box not even in the car.A situation that should be fixed within the next week or so.I had to wait a bit for mine but did get the polished compressor and exhaust housing so that is maybe why it took a bit longer.

But it looks like a piece of jewellry so no complaints in that regard.
And very sure my car will be a freakin cruise missle with this big shiny snail on it.
