Hey i got a problem.. I just bough a carbon fiber hood like this one:

95 96 97 98 99 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE VIS CARBON FIBER HOOD:eBay Motors (item 160391059863 end time Jan-29-10 20:44:23 PST)

and i think it rubs on the timing belt. FYI. i do not have the top timing belt cover on. And also water from rain goes through the vent and ends up on the valve cover and in the spark plugs.. Therefore the motor runs like crap! :notgood: Now im wondering if theres anyway to work around that like a water funnel and/or a lift to keep the hood off the Timing Belt. :hmm: Please lemme know what you guys did or recommend. Thanks!

It looks like it doesn't have the same size of hump that the OEM hood has, but it is hard to tell from the picture.

As for the water problem, you need a baffle to keep the water off the engine. The hood is not going to come with one, unless you get a very expensive hood. Making one shouldn't be too much of a challenge, though. Look at an Impreza or EVO hood and see how they do it.

I would bet it's this. I'm bored at work, so I tried finding some nice pics of people with that hood and I couldn't. I see the other various VIS and Seibon hoods on 2G's. Perhaps it is hitting, hence the lack of people with it?

You could tape some chalk to the area you think it might be hitting and then gently close the hood to see where (if it is) hitting. Might help.

Yea.. Under the hood i didnt have rub marks from the timing belt.. but when i closed the hood i saw some Wear under it and on top of the timing belt.... So i could tell.. and as far as the baffle? Ill check into that... Does anyone think that a Front strut bar would lift the hood a bit to keep it off the Timing Belt? or is there clearance? Oh and Ill be sure to check by putting chalk there.. Just to be 100% sure that its rubbing. :) Thanks!

if the rubbing is not as rough try dremeling off some where it contacts to get rid of the friction, any other modification might make your hood uneven with the contours of the body

There are hood height adjustments via the rubber hood bumpers along the sides and front - just turn them. This may help if it actually is hitting.

I could be totally off on this one guys, and please correct me if I am, but as I remember the hood has more clearance on the 2G cars anyway. For aftermarket hoods, if they sit a bit higher, clearance of the timing belt is no problem. The main reason they kept the hood hump on the 2G cars when they were designing them, was as a DSM calling card from the 1G. Also, if it didn't clear, it would be very noticeable. I have had cars that DID rub and it would leave rub marks in the carbon fibre.

thanks guys. Been awhile since I got the internet. When I checked the hood.. it did clear. However when I drive it, then reach my destination. It has been hitting it... I think it might have something to do with motor mounts perhaps? A bad motor mount would make it rock too easily, if im not mistaken,, right? I have added a few washers on the hinged to heighten it, also turned up the rubber hood levels, you can barely tell its not flush. But still it rubs a lil bit. If I need to post pictures. Let me know. Thanks!
