Ok The water pump went,, i have not replaced it yet but the car wont start!!! It cranks over smooth and don't make any sounds that it should not!! It has spark and it's getting gas!

But as it's cranking it don't make any noises like it is trying to light the fuel,, it just turns over!!!

Cold the timming sliped and how will i know with out taking the head off if it bent the head!!

It's a
92 talon tsi AWD auto!! Any help would be nice,, i have the water pump i just have not put it on yet!! just got the car and want to see if it even runs before i i take the time to replace it!!!

OK what would be the next step after that!! and how do i check the big black fuses to see if there blowen!~

Well, if the timing belt slipped, you would have a cranking sound that wouldn't rise and fall with compression. It would be a steady sound like the sound it would make if the spark plugs were left out. Before you start that, pull your covers and check to make absolutely sure the marks are lined up. The rear counterbalancer won't line up but every 6 revolutions of the crankshaft. So, somewhere in there it should line up also.

If it has slipped over 3 teeth, You will need to put a new belt on and do a compression test. Hopefully you will be the rare one and dodged pulling a head.

Better do this first. If it all lines up and it still doesn't start, we can at least give you further pointers in the right direction.

Good Luck

OK well when it is cranking it is the sound is going up and down you can tell it has compression!!!

I'm going to do a compression test on it!! What should i be looking for well doing this!!

you want to have good compression obviously, if you have any 0's in a cylinder, it means you would have bent or broken valves, but when my car jumped timing, it wouldnt even crank, the starter would turn and thats it, so it may not have anything to do with timing, lets hope

OK well that makes me feel really good LOL!!! I don't know i have owned a dsm before but it was not a turbo,, so when i came across this one i bought it with out thinking!! it was worth it tho,, i will have some pics soon it's blue with like one dent and black inside with no rips nothing!! LOL it's awsome and it's AWD so yea i payed 600 for it,,

It had the waterpump blow and it has not started since then 2 years ago LOL!! So yea i'm trying to figuer this out!

Thanks for all the help all!

Definitely do what old_mitsu_tech suggested. Just to double check, how exactly did you check for spark and fuel? Are you sure the plug wires are in correct firing order?

If it has been sitting for 2 years, you need to drain the old gas and put fresh in. There is a drain plug in the tank towards the rear on the driver side.

I would also pull the ecu and check for leaking caps or a damaged circuit board. Here is a link with the how to's on it.

I checked for spark by takeing the wires off one by one and holding then close to the body!! i saw a nice blue spark jump from them!! I do need to drain the gas but would it not start it all on the old gas!!

And i checked the gas buy pulling the line off on the fuel rail and watching it come out!!

That only tells you there is fuel pressure and the pump is operating but it doesn't tell you if the injectors are opening. Pull all four plugs and make sure you're getting fuel in each cylinder, you can do this when you perform that compression test.

This only tells you have spark, you still have to double check and make sure they're in correct firing order. From left to right, head = 4321 and coils are 4123.

OK how do i check the gas when the plugs are out!!! do i llok to see if the plugs have gas on them???

And i believe it is the right fireorder but i will check it!!!

One of my friends has a 2g N/T auto and he had the same starting problem (except for the water pump) it turned out to be his Safty Neutral switch luckly his was a simple fix we just jiggled around his shifter and it started up try that first and if it still doesnt work try tightening your shifter linkage and then if still no luck the switch is most likely bad

good luck

Yes, they should be soaked in fuel by now, you should also smell fuel as soon as you remove the plugs. Make sure you follow the directions given in the compression test vfaq. Post back results.
