Help Car Wont Start

Ok I just put my engine out of my 96 eclipse gst in my 98 eclipse gst, I also used the intake manifold off of the 98 engine instead of the 96 one. I tried to start the car and all it did was sit there and crank and backfire. I then took the computer out of the 96 engine and put it in the 98 car and the car fired right up. It didnt run to good but I only ran it for a few sec because I wasn't sure if it was going to hurt anything. I then bought a new 98 computer and put it in the car and all the car did was sit there and crank and backfire. Im very confused. any help would be great. Thanks

ensure that all wiring is securely attached and plugged in. check for good consistant spark and battery voltage, check timing

just a quick ? did you do a timing belt? if you did check the timing!

Since you swapped manifolds, recheck that you have your spark plug wires hooked up right too

1996 ECU has a different firing order from a 1998 ECU. The CAS on the 97-99 were on the top passenger side of valve cover. That is definitely your problem.

Yea ok that was what I was looking for someone to say. Thank you very much. the part is in the mail and hopefully this is the problem.

Try changing the plug order on the coil pack to the 98 99 setup and see how it runs. See if it fixes the problem.
