help buying a tsi awd

First Come - First Served - Cash Special ** MECHANIC/BODYMAN SPECIAL ** 1996 Eagle Talon TSi AWD - 4 cylinder ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE TURBO w/5 speed transmission, 118K miles, red w/gray leather interior, power windows/locks/mirrors, factory AM/FM/CD radio, sunroof, alloy wheels. This is a great opportunity to pick up an all-wheel-drive TURBO car at a price that you can afford to fix it at. Needs fender repair to the passenger side, a passenger-side headlight... and repair to a scrape along the passenger fender/door. There's also an indentation on the passenger rear quarter panel that looks like it might be easy to pull out. Engine starts up but smokes really bad and the engine misses (most likely from oil fouling the plugs). Cannot be driven like it is. Most likely needs a turbo, but no rods are knocking, so we assume the rest of the engine will be ok once the smoking problem is addressed. Clutch seems fine and the transmission goes into all gears like it should, so we assume the clutch & transmission are good in this car. The car is priced to sell at $1,500... not $1,000, not $1,250, not $1,350... come prepared to buy at $1,500 cash (cash, check, money order, cashier's check). all though it is a great car it sounds like it has been ran hard and sounds like it slammed a gaurd rail but all of the problems that are wrong with it sound bad. but it will be a lot of work to fix. maybe a whole engine rebuild. and even though it is an awd that sounds like a lot of work to do but that also gives you a chance to replace everything with performance parts. it will end up costing you as much if not more than a regular one more than likely but it should be faster when you finish it. but that does not seem to be worth all the work that needs to be done to it

I'd keep looking.


the one i've got picked out is straight but needs engine work... that's the kinda buy to look for. .build a bottom end, throw on a ported head and have something different... it seems like engine work is much cheaper than body work these days anyway. (especially since i can throw a motor in it but can't paint it). .
