help. bolt broke off in transfercase while i was unbolting the transfercase from the tranny. any help or ideas anyone?..... or options?

they make tools to get broken bolts out or just run it without one it wont hurt it any

Yha they do, it's like screw thing that screws into it then you reverse and it pulls the bi*** out. Havent the slightest how that would work tho LOL

Take off the rest of the t-case bolts and slid the T-case off. Now the shaft of the broke bolt should be accessible. Take a pair of Big Vise grips and clamp it on the bolt and turn it out. Unless of course you cross threaded the bolt. Then It is going to be much more difficult to remove.

If you cannot get to the shaft to clamp vise grips on, then you will have to drill a 1/4" hole in the center of the broken bolt. Now insert and Easy out/Back out tool and turn counter clockwise.

If the hole IS cross threaded you will have to get a TAP and clean up the threads before putting in a new bolt. Otherwise you will be doing this all over again. I also recommend getting a can of Anti Seize compound and smearing it on all the bolt threads before tightening.

If you can get the broken critter out & replaced, all the better.
But just to back up my previous statement of 1 missing is ok, my
switchable transfer case on my 1g auto uses only the front 3 bolts
due to the manual mid section can't bolt up to the auto. I'm driving
vlsds each end with 22psi & have no probs.
Cheers !

i got it out by cutting it out with a grinder...cut into the bellhousing in some. can i weld it up ...whats it made of? alluminum?
