Help!?! Backfiring And Running Like Dookie!

HELP!?! :talon: 95 Talon ESI
I was driving like a jerk, as usual, and I downshifted into 2nd gear to slow down. Keep in mind my car is an automatic... Anyway, since then it has been backfiring under load and running like a nightmare. Once I get to 50 or 60 mph it seems to be fine, but when I slow down for the light and go to take off again, it starts sputtering and acts like it is running on three cylinders... Is it possible that it could have stretched the timimg belt? I just changed the belt about 6 months ago. Also I get horrible gas milage now. Please help!!! :confused:
Also, I need a passenger door glass and both door handles if anyone has junk to sell in the Indianapolis area!

check the plugs and wires. mine started misfiring in second and 3rd like 3 or 4 times, then after 2700rpms, it would smooth out. i had a bad wire. check those and get back to us.... downshifting to 2nd to slow down in an automatic :laugh: :laugh:

I just recently did a valve cover swap and well, and the cover i swapped with had a hairline fracture in it and cracked spraying oil ALL over my valve cover. Now my car developed the same problem but MUCH worse. Oil has covered all my plugs and the backside of my engine so I can only assume that my distributor has been soaked as well. Now my car ran fine util the oil invaded, and I replaced my plugs with no affect of the problem, so it has got to be something to do with those plugs or distributor. gl with the problem, I know i need it. And another thing to remember is that if your car acts weird @ an rpm range, it could be a map issue ( or something related). If it acts weird @ a throttle position, tps ( or something related).
 
Yep. it was the plug wires. I had some BAD ass arc action. The easiest way to tell if this is your problem, check where the plug wires hook up to the spark plugs. If you see any discoloration (ie the black rubber has turned white, this is from fould plug wires that are arcing) then thats the problem. Your wires are fouled and you need new ones. gl with the problem.
