I am working on a 1993 Eagle Talon N/A 5spd.
After installing a new clutch, machined flywheel, transmission, and remaining components the car will not turn over. I tried to turn it over by a breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley but I couldn't budge it. The wheels still move independently of the engine when in gear. The car started and ran fine with the old clutch. Does anyone know what I did wrong? If possible can I solve this problem without having to remove the transmission again? Any advice helps. Thanks

So the wheels move freely while the car is in gear? You have problems LOL. Ive seen someone forget to put the starter back in...

The starter was installed and could not turn the engine over. I thought it might have been a starter issue so I removed it and it workes fine. After taking it off and leaving it off I could not turn the motor over with a breaker bar.

If you did not change the flywheel the clutch or the flywheel might be catching on the bell housing. FWD and AWD have different size flywheels to so if you put a AWD in a FWD the clutch catches on the bell housing. Hope that helps.

That sounds logical, I had a really hard time getting the transmission mount up. The flywheel is the original one, I took it off to be machined and reinstalled itThe person that I am dong this clutch for already had the clutch. Is their a difference in AWD and FWD clutches that if I have the wrong one it could cause this? NOTE: 7 Bolt Motor
Also I didnt find a pilot bearing when I took off the old clutch. Would that have anything to do with it?
Thanks

The AWD and FWD clutches are the same for turbo cars. Bad news is the only way to know is to pull it all apart to find out where the clearance issue is at no other way to know it is in the bell housing though. Hope that helps.

By the very nature of you having to force the transmission to the engine should have told you something.

Hopefully you didn't damage something. Just for grins, loosen all your bell housing bolts and move the transmission back. See if the engine turns over then by hand. Do "NOT" use the starter. If it turns over, gently push the transmission back a little at a time and see if it still hits. If at any point you feel the flywheel hitting, you are going to have to pull the transmission and look. Sometimes things get bound up. Never force a transmission to an engine. Especially in an auto as you can crush the front pump.

4g63's don't have a pilot bushing. You merely line up the clutch by eye and put it together.

Let me know what you find either here in the forum or pm. I'm curious.

Good Luck

I put in a pilot bushing, it put it in between the flywheel and the clutch. Like a fool I followed the instructions that came with the clutch. I am sure that that bearing is causing all of the problems. I will let you all know after I take it back off tonight. Thanks for the help. Brodie

I am having the same problem with the motor not turning over, but i know its not the same problem that he had. I can turn it slightly and hear a clunk. sounds like the clutch is hitting the bell housing. I removed the tranny, then realized that the flywheel does not sit flush to the bolt holes, instead the back of fly wheel is flush with the tip of the crank. so in turn i can see a gap inbetween the two. Is this incorrect? and or what could have gone wrong? Also motor is auto but i did remove flex plate etc... Shell is stock 1g AWD 5 spd, did not have to do tranny swap, tech. it was a 6 bolt 5 spd motor to a 6 bolt auto motor. (not on purpose obviously)
