help...1st gen frame replace..

has anyone ever replaced there sub-frame.. basically the metal frame that is under your motor holding it in place...(metal holding your rear motor mount)
I went autocrossing with my 91 talon over the weekend and ended up droping the axle and cracking the frame on the passenger side...
any input or advice would be greatly appreciated, on how to replace this item..
please no jokes or rude comments.. imagine if it was your frame that was crack on your tricked out all show DSM...

when i swapped motors between my 2 1g's i dropped out the whole subframe with the engine mounted to it.

i cant imagine doing it on the ground but on a lift it wasnt bad. just 6 big bolts. the 3 bolts on the little subframe brace and the balljoints.

I hope you like playing in junkyards It is a bolt-in affair but it will take a lot of work to remove and replace. Try and get one from a car with no front-end damage.

You will need to pull your steering rack, exhaust and probably your sway bar in order to get it out.

Sorry to hear this happened, but at least it wasn't your tranny that got smacked! How the heck did this happen anyway? It shouldn't be possible unless you have some other big problems.

leave the steering rack on the frame its inside the back crossmember anyway. just unbolt it from the steering shaft and pop the joint off before you lower the rack. if you need to swap it over itll be easier to do with the frame out of the car anyway. same with the swaybar

will definately have to pull the exhaust and i think also the transfercase. Obviously you'll need to unhook the front and rear motor mounts since they are attached to the subframe. i think you can get away with letting the motor hang on the 2 side mounts but I'd secure it with something else also just to be safe.

His car is FWD, no transfer case It is also just the rear that needs to be dropped so the front motor mount can stay. But by all means, if the PS rack drops out with the subframe let it. He'll just have to be sure to disconnect the lines from it.

thanks for some input guys..
this happend when i was at an autocross event over the weekend.. some how i think the frame started to crack and the axle popped out.. could not get the axle back in so i had to get it towed and while putting it on the flat bed.. something happened...

Make sure you mark around the bolts with some white out or other marker before removing them,so everything is lined up correctly when going to put the new one in. Have you found one yet?
