Just finished the "headlight mod." Painted the housing and cleared out the directionals. Advice to anyone who hasn't done this: Do NOT use Dupli-Color paint. Fusion works great. Here's some quick pics.

looks good, thanks for the tip. :thumb:
So the duplicolor didnt work becuase the housing is a plastic or something im taking it??
Ive painted plastic w/ duplicolor successfully by using their adhesion promoter spray, though its probaly easier just to use fusion.

How do you clear out the turn signals? I might do this instead of projectors.... :dsm:

Dupli-Color doesn't like the plastic housing. Sections fade and look terrible, even after sanding and priming. Once you bake the headlights and take them apart, you can unscrew the orange piece behind the clear lens. Real easy. I used Fusion with Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel. Let it dry for a while or it'll leave fingerprints when you touch it. I recommend taping off the accent before sanding/priming/painting and leaving it black. This makes it look better. Beats spending $300 on projectors and it's custom.

Mattitude, these look great.

I was thinking of painting my Talon lights red. Now after seeing how good yours turned out I just have to do it :)

Has anyone here painted 2ga lights red?

Question about color matching. Was there a particular shade you used? I was thinking since they are behind the headlight lens that the color could be off quite a bit and still look good.

Thanks
Dan

the paint job you did looks good, but you have to much of the same color going on besides the grill there isn't any contrast nothing but the same color including the turn signals and the cover on the foglights.

Your car looks like it just came out of the factory. Very clean. VERY clean. :thumb:

Not feeling the whole mesh though. :D

Well most cars do come in ONE color. If I wanted to ruin my car with contrast I would have painted the headlight and fog assembly pupil-splitting yellow. But I'm going for a clean, show-car look, not a contrasty clown-car look. And the stock black plastic pieces which Mitsu was too lazy too paint is only visually appealing on black cars I think, maybe a dark car it's less noticeable, but on lighter colors it just doesn't work.

pnad, it was Red Krylon Fusion, not sure the exact term for red but you'll be able to tell which one. There's a minor difference in color, but can barely be noticed when installed inside the assembly.

I did that to my old healights after i bought my projectors. I wasn't sure of what it would look like, but now i kinda wish I would have left them stock with the inside painted red. Looks nice! :thumb:

Hmm, I had some left over High Temp Dupli-Color paint from painting my calipers, and thought might as i well use them. So I painted the headlights and it turned out pretty good. Its been two months and it is still holding up fine.

Nice job pnad. Now you can actualy notice the headlights. I also like the fog lights you installed. Did you use the fusion paint?

Not sure if this is possible on your headlights, but on mine I removed the orange lens and installed hyperwhite bulbs for the turn signals. This looks great at night with silverstar headlights. Also, you can install hyperwhite lights on the bumper lenses. That would look real clean at night! Or just paint over the lens red like I did (pic above) and disconnect the bulb.

I did clear out the corners on the headlights but I put amber bulbs in.
I also have amber bulbs in the bumper lights. Eh.. I like orange :)

I liked my old foglights better (shown ^up^ in the first pic). After one of those broke the only round ones I could find have the blue tint.

I did use the Fusion paint. I didnt scuff it or anything. Bonded pretty well. Shouldnt be an issue as it will be totaly protected anyway.

^Well....not true. If you didn't use any type of primer, the paint may start to "bubble" over time because of the heat generated by all the lights. Anyway, scuffing helps but priming seals the deal.

Oh yeah, I scuffed mine and then painted it...it's now starting to bubble up. I should've primed it first (got ahead of myself :D).

i also painted my 95's black. i love it looks great, nothing wrong with the duplicolor either. I primered then dupli then a light coat of high temp clear.
