I have a 1G GST and just discovered the header is cracked :( I want to buy a new header for ~200 that'll bolt on to the stock turbo without fabrication. I noticed people are selling the pacesetter 2G headers saying they'll fit a 1G- is this correct?

Pacesetter part # 70-1225
http://www.pacesetterexhaust.com/headers_detail.htm

The page mentions in the footnotes that it "Comes with header extension to connect to stock system. Fabrication may be required" ....wait, so is it bolt on or not?

They also list a link to turbo downpipes, but there are none on the page it links to (!)

Don't buy a pacesetter header. I had one for 1 months, And the flange snapped right off. Got another one for free after sending that one back, Same thing happen.
My buddy bought one, Cracked in less then a month. If you don't believe me, Try it for yourself.

Wow, thanks for the advice. Which brand do you recommend? Will 2G headers fit on 1Gs?

First of, you don't have a header. You have a manifold.

And yes, a 2g exhaust manifold will bolt right up to a 1g. It's pretty common to do actually.

OK... n00b question time... what's the difference between a header and a manifold? I kinda got the impression they were two different things but I've never understood why.

Thanks for your patience, everyone :thumb:

Alright, so here's a stupid question from a stupid newbie (aka me!) :D

Why are manifolds (seemingly, at least) so much more popular on our turbocharged DSMs than headers?

Is it because of efficiency? Is it because of heat?

Please educate me. :thumb:

Well, lets see.....
If money was not an option, I'd get a nice DNP Header.
But for most people (including myself), money is a huge factor, so I would say this Cast manifold is one of the best bang for the buck.
And if you want to spend even less, a ported 2G manifold is an excellent upgrade for any 1G. You can get a stock 2G manifold on eBay or here on the classifieds for pretty cheap and then port it yourself (or pay SBR $40 to port it). Either way, I would stay away from Pacesetter. Their price reflects on their quality - 'cheap'. For evey person happy with their product, there's 2 people pissed off because theirs cracked.

I've done searches, and read alot, my vision is starting to get blurry, so I could've missed it. But will a 2G turbo mani fit on my 1G non turbo? I know the 2G turbo flows better than the 1G so if it fits on n/t, awesome, if not, damn. If it doesn't can anyone point me to a nice cheap header that's not Pacesetter? Thanks guys.

youve got to remember, theres a turbo thats gotta take up that extra space. You cant put a turbo exhaust mani on a Non Turbo car. Get the Slowboy Cast mani for $250, youll love it.

Thanks for your help man. I just wasn't sure if perhaps the piping on the 1G came up higher than on the 2Gs, not many 2G turbo's around here. Does the Slowboy need to be ported out at all?

You can always make one too..... this one was custom made for my by Exploited Racing. IT flows very very well.... and it is stainless. I am sure he will make more. They are around 500ish I believe.
