The DSMparts.com website says "4 Layer Genuine Mitsubishi/Ralli Art Headgasket. This metal 4 layer metal headgasket is almost twice as thick as the stock unit." If it is so thick I wonder what effect it has on the C/R?
 
Alldata losts md183808 as the stock gasket for 90 eagle tsi or mitsu gsx this number may have changed but check the differences in that one

they came stock on evo 1-3

its thicker because its designed so you don't have to use a shim after you mill your head before installing the new gasket.
you are supposed to get the head milled flat before you install a new head gasket because they prone to warping. if you milled the head and didn't use a shim, your compression ratio would go up a little(probably by around .5)
if you used that gasket and didn't mill the head your compression ratio would drop.

if you milled the head and used the 4 layer, it would stay the same.
 
Im getting a mitsu 4 layer HG with NEW stock head bolts, is it absolutely necessary to use copper spray? And also, my head has been milled, but im not so sure how milled my block is. Im having wiseco 9:1 pistons installed. If I use this gasket with minnimal milling on this block, how will it affect my compression?

I would go with studs instead of the bolts. They are about the same price and they will hold alot more.
 
my block's already been built for stock bolts....im not going overkill on the boost or anything....yet :D My builder said he's setting the "torque plate to 72lb/ft" whatever a "torque plate" is :confused:
 
Can you explain how your block was built specifically for stock head bolts? I too agree with getting head studs. Nearly the same price, reusable, and will hold more.
 
yes even a stock block and head straight from the factory can have ARP studs installed with no problems, i dont think theres anyway your block can only accept stock bolts. make sure you put on the copper spray on evenly and thin layers and make sure each coat has time to dry and get a little tacky. i messed it up with my MLS gasket and the oil got into the coolant under boost, so i pulled the head and removed the copper spray and cleaned the HG until it was hospital clean, put it straight on without copper spray and now i boost fine. no mixing of fluids whatsoever. even at 24psi street driven.

A block isnt built for bolts or studs, they are interchangeable. Also the torque plate should be torqued the same specs that the head would be. Is our case it should be 85-95 ft/lb. You may want to get another machinist if these are the things he is telling you.
 
Stock torque is 72lb/ft for stock bolts. Whats wrong with how he's building my block up? Oh, BTW Suparata is the one building up my block and he says that stock head bolts are fine for my application, which wont exceed 400hp :thumb: I just wanted to know if i NEEDED to use the copper spray stuff.. Im hearing horror stories about it and want to avoid timely mistakes if I can. :boring:

True, but I would go with studs. Again they are the same price and hold a ton more. I would ask him what he thinks about copper spray. I personally would use it and have never heard any horror stories.
