First off, im new on the forum. Signed up when I was trying to find some info and could not find it.

My question is, im refreshing my motor in my 98 gs after 220k+ miles. decided to do it to get rid of the head gasket leaking oil issue. ive dealt with this before numerous times when I worked at a dodge dealer and on my mothers 2.4l breeze when she owned it. at the dealer I always installed mopar parts, but on the breeze I went with felpro mls gasket and felpro head bolt. I didn't cut down the bolts or add washers to the corner bolts. seemed fine up until she sold it. now fast forward a few years and im using felpro mls and felpro bolts on my eclipse and wondering if this particular engine im suppose to do anything out of the ordinary such as shaving the tip of the bolts down or adding a washer? I don't really like the idea. has anybody on here used felpro mls gasket and the felpro bolts and did you have to modify them?

thanks in advance and I apologize if this has been asked before, I just could not find a clear answer on this.

well that puts me somewhat at ease. i would just really hate to put it all back together and have it start leaking again later down the road. i got a little worried when i compared the old head bolts with the new ones and found out they were the same length. i dont really feel comfortable grinding down a new headbolt or putting an extra washer on. thanks for the info.

i read that article also. i guess what i was really trying to ask in my original long drawn out post was if anyone used felpro bolts and if they have had a leak come back by not grinding or using an extra washer. sorry, i tend to be unclear about things at times when i get flustered.

I used felpro bolt and gasket and have had no issues.

^^^ I think this guy has

And because you were having a leak I doesnt mean it was the bolts themselves as the oem ones as well as aftermarkets were revised to fix the issue we once had. It could have been an improper tq or tq sequence.

I don't think the head has ever been off, I could be wrong though. when I pulled the corner bolts, the tip of the bolt on cylinder 4 on the backside showed sign of it being bottomed out. if I have time at work tomorrow, Im going to clean the hole out and run the bore scope down there and see what it looks like.
