Has this happened to you during pump installation??

Hey i was starting to change my fuel pump, and i got to the, i believe feed line, and i COULD NOT get the two separated.. THen this happened to the metal nipple coming off of the cover, i'm assuming it isn't safe to drive like this, but i can't even get the two lines separated. What do i do??
I've already sprayed with liquid wrench

That looks pretty bad, I suggest getting a replacement assembly from the bone yard. There is another connector under the car where the other end of the hose connects to the fuel lines, much easier to remove so you can pull the hose out along with the assembly.

I take it you did not read this. You could possibly cut the broken line as close to the bad section as you can get. But cut it so the end of your cut is good round tube and not deformed at all. Then you will have to get a flaring tool and possibly a new fitting. Put the new fitting on the line and then flare the end of it. If you can't get the old line apart you will have to make or buy a new one. Just make sure the new one is long enough to fit on your now shorter outlet.

I'm gunna get it out from underneat, all that i looked at when i started was GSgoinfasts write up, it just didn't state the parta bout doing it from underneath, i assume he got his loose from the top, oh well i'll get it out and see if i can't bend and work it to my advantage, which i doubt...

All you have to do is cut the line where it is damaged and replace it with some fuel hose. I didn this with my Install...makes things much easier.

NO do not reuse this line the way it is or try bending it back into shape. that material can be bent too far and cause a pin hole puncture or cut which will cause fuel leakage, unwanted vapors in to the cabin area ect.... do what the others said and replace with whole new assembly or repair by cutting off the bent area and replacing it with a new piece. if you don't know how get someone who does. it will make things smoother.

this is why you buy correct tools.. a flare wrench and this wouldnt have happened. I see the nuts are a bit stripped too

I didnt need a flare wrench when i took mine off; just used a cresent wrench and a 19mm and PB blaster.

Blah blah blah... buying right tools... LOL yeah, i had the right tools, ya know line wrenches and all that bull... Yeah, mine still broke too, wanna know why? because it was rusted to all hell and it had not been touched in almost 16 years, so it could happen to anyone. I was quoted at over 450 bucks for a new fuel pump assembly so what we did is got some brake line and soldered the old fitting on to it and fed the brake line down to the bottom and soldered it to the old fitting for the fuel pump. It worked well and after it was all done it's as good as new. If you can find a decent one in a bone yard, go for it, but I doubt they're gonna be all that great still, if you can even get it off the car period.

But either way, good luck, because I know how much of a pain it can be... My car started leaking fuel like crazy because we were trying to fix a short in the wire by the fuel pump and in doing so cracked the line without realizing it while i was sitting on the side of the road over an hour and a half away from my house and i had to leave my car at a 24 hour gas station for 4 days...

this is why you read the V-FAQ on changing the fuel pump. At the very top of the page it tells you to NOT try to get that fitting off, as you will break/bend it. You very obviously didn't read it.

Did you wake up feeling like being a dick today dude? Someone already said that..IF you haven't realized..Which apperently you haven't. SO please keep your stupid RUDE repetitive comments to yourself

Thanks,
Josh

BTW for those of you who care i got a new one at the boneyard for 45 with the pump.

Funny story actually, the dude that was pullin it off the car for me, couldn't speak a LICK of english LoL. And i kept tellin him LET ME DO IT LET ME DO IT! since i knew how easily it could bend, and i was just going to go ahead and undo it from the bottom of the car so i didn't have to mess with it on the pump housing, well he gets the two loose from each other(but not all the way off) then he takes EVERYTHING else off, and when he goes to pull the assembly out, he realizes the hose is stopping it, so what does he do...he cuts it. Pissed me off SO much but i still got it and i got the two fittings apart on my old one so everything is good now.

okay, if you do NOT remove that, it is very hard to work on getting the fuel pump installed and everything while the whole assembly is still sitting right there in the trunk. I wouldn't have wanted to do that whatsoever. Besides, in my situation, I had a screw for the ground wire that was being a lil bi*** and not wanting to come lose. i almost stripped it completely because my screwdriver didn't fit it JUST PERFECT. Oh well, in my situation it worked out alright and I got an even better line there to replace it for only a couple bucks. (and thanks to my dad who's great with soldering and welding LOL)

When my line broke i cut the metal line right at the top of the base then ground it smooth and then drilled the hole out to the size of the new tube. Then i placed the pump in the assembly and soldered the tube back to the base of the assembly, works well, it is cheap and you dont have to go to the boneyard to find a replacement. :dsm:
