I made a little more progress on the car. I started by installing new rotors for the 5 lug swap.

I also got pretty much everything under the hood buttoned up.

And put the finishing touches on the wheels.

Hopefully this thing moves under its own power here shortly.

I got the car running late yesterday night. After a short test drive, I figured out I had a few small issues the address. I had some boost leaks, and figured out my valve cover had a hairline crack near the cam gears which subsequently pissed oil everywhere. I also figured out the MSD plug wires I was running were junk. I was tired of working on the car at that point, but was satisfied that it was at least running.

Today, I addressed the issues I found earlier, and now the car runs awesome. I still need to dial in the tune for real power, but I need an alignment before I start doing all that shit. I'm also short 1 lug nut on each wheel, since the Evo 8 Enkeis use the lugs with the flat seat...Which by the way were impossible to find locally. I ended up having to order a set online, so they should be here this week along with some other goodies to round out the build.

I gave it a quick wash to knock off all the JSB dust, and then drove it around for about an hour or so. I couldn't be happier with how the car has turned out thus far...And I gotta say, It was pretty surreal having 2 empty bays in the garage again!

Well, in the picture it looks like the front tires are proud of the fenders by atleast an inch and, on a Macpherson strut where camber gain is small at best and positive past a certain point, I'd think that would lead to rubbing. Also, I'm going to be using the same wheels on FUBAR and am curious if that's something that I'm going to need to address.

Shootout prep I forgot to update: I started by replacing the junk ass Ebay slim fan with the stock main puller fan, since the car would struggle to stay cool at idle with the Ebay junk. It runs nice and cool now.

Added a $3 FRAM Airhog air filter, which BTW looks better made than the K&N filter I had previously.

Also replaced the bad MSD wires with some Autolite stockers, installed some BR8EIX plugs, and swapped in a new valve cover since the old one cracked.

Then, it got a quick boost leak check @ 30 PSI until the BL tester blew off and almost killed me. I called it good

Lastly, installed some camber plates to take care of the notorious positive camber up front from the Evo 8 suspension. Then, and added a pair of 5mm spacers in the rear to bring all 4 corners flush. New stance:

I needed some more stop to pair up with all the go I've added to 820 recently. Luckily, Nate from Performance Partout hooked me up with a great deal on a set of Baer Track Claw big brakes. They were in great shape overall, so I didn't need to do much. I dissembled everything to clean and lube all the parts. Then, in typical fashion, I gave them a nice coat of ricer red before putting everything back together.

Installing them wasn't as straight forward as I thought it would be. With Nate's help, I figured out you have to clearance the back of the knuckle where the half moons are cut for the caliper bracket bolts. Only after the knuckles are clearanced will the Baer adapter brackets bolt in place.

Once I finally got the calipers and rotors on, I realized the brake line brackets were not going to work with the Evo suspension I'm running. I had to order some adapters for the lines up front to get everything where it should be, so the job is on hold until those come in the mail. Here are a few pics of the progress (the new rotors dwarf the old stockers).

Once the adapters for the lines come in I'll bolt them up and bleed the brakes. Then it should be good to go.

Finished up the new brakes on 820. They feel awesome.

After a a few hard stops on the new brakes, there was brake dust everywhere, so I figured I'd just pull both the turds out of the garage and give them a bath.

All clean and tucked away in the garage.

Such a nice specimen! How are the brakes holding up? A noticeable difference? My friend has a VR4 and getting bbk's and wheels that fit is no easy task so he was thinking of these although they're a floating caliper style.

They are noticeable improvement over the stock calipers. You'll need a 17" wheel or better to clear these.

As 1837 gets upgrades, 820 gets some hand-me-downs

820 recently got an Evo 8 MAF and new K&N filter. Then, I swapped in some FIC 1150s just in case I decide I want to run E85 some day.

I also got hooked up with a really cool spark plug cover. Rob from Rob's DSM Carbon is making some pretty cool hand made custom carbon fiber pieces. I was lucky enough to get one of the first pieces he made, and it's a super clean centerpiece for any engine bay.
