I looked through the FAQ and couldn't find anything so...

I have to opportunity to purchase a 1996 Spyder GST with 13k miles for a great price. I currently drive a Sebring JXI convertible and there are so many differences between the convertible and the hardtop that they are nearly like different models when concerning to parts and mods. I am wondering what the mechanical differences between the Spyder and hardtop fwd turbo models are. Is the engine compartment the same (i.e. all performances mods fit on both)?

Thanks for the help, I'm looking foward to spending alot of time here in the future.

Yea under the hood is exactly the same as far as I know. Same engine, same tranny, same turbo, etc. All the mods will fit for under the hood, and probably most of interior. Now exterior, maybe the bumpers and side skirts.

spyders have a trunk instead of a hatch. My friends spyder's trunk is TINY. there is no way u could EVER fit a set of golf clubs back there...maybe a few bags of grocery's

seats are different...in the spider they dont go all the way back because they'll hit the speaker. I just bought my Spyder GST a few days ago so thats how i know. I think the seats probably have a bracket or something that prevents them from going too far back. I'm giong to try to figure out if i can stop this in the future.

And the spyder is heavier

Which also means if you want to lower the spyder there are specific springs you need to watch out for that are just for the spyder, look at Eibach for example.

1996 Spyder - Curb Weight 3085 lbs
Luggage Capacity - 5.1 cu ft

1996 GST - Curb Weight 2899 lbs
Luggage Capacity - 16.6 cu ft

Same engine, horsepower, etc as the others have said. I'm just not sure how much the weight slows it down when comparing the two. Hope this helps!

Hey i have a spyder that i just got about a month ago and i love it there fast and good lookin everythgin under the hood is the same. The trunk is small and i can only fit 10s the bumpers are all the same i fit a boye kit on mine almost all parts are the same so if u get the spyder have fun with it :dsm:
