I have been looking around for a name brand catback from HKS, Greddy, Apexi, Tanabe and so on.... I read through numerouse threads that a Gst catback will fit on a n/t. I'm planning on getting a catback with 2.5 or 3 inch piping. Just to make sure, will the 2.5 or 3 inch Gst exhaust flanges fit and line up perfectly with my stock cat?

Since you are N/T i wouldnt go with a 2.5 inch or 3 inch, you wont have any back pressure what so ever just get a 2 1/4 and be happy. You can go to an exhaust shop and have one made very cheap instead of paying hundreds for a name, is just a pipe, if you dont want an exhaust shop to do it go to ebay and look for tsudo, they make very cheap, but well built exhausts for N/T's. My friend had one on his N/T and it was fine. Just a thought that could save you hundreds of $$$.

The GS-T exhaust will fit but I wouldn't put it on a n/t for the reasons that Jeff822 said.

Agreed. I had a local muffler shop bend my exhaust. They charged me about $120, and my muffler cost me about 75. Just buy a nice muffler and have an exhaust shop bend the pipes from the cat back. Also, don't go bigger than 2 1/4 unless you plan on going turbo. Mine is 2.5. Although it sounds nice, I can feel a slight loss of power. Can't wait to take full advantage of it with my turbo!

I used to have a 98 RS Eclipse with exhaust on it. I had 2 1/4 exhaust on it and it sounded really good. I now drive a 98 GS-T and still almost wish i could go back to the sound of my old exhaust. (Really loud) Granted i never had the car with stock exhaust so there wasnt much to compare it to. But i did race another 5 speed once with just a cold air and beat it.

Get as large as you want(2 - 2 1/2 probably pleanty). Backpressure is your enemy at all times. I'd recommend getting a muffler shop to make your pipes too, I think mine costed about 100$.

Thanx for all your input guys. I'm proubably just gonna buy the hks carbon Ti muffler and get an exhaust shop to make my exhaust out of 2.25 or 2.5 inch pipeing that routs underneath the rear suspension.

Once again thanks for your input. I decided to use 2.25 piping. Enjoy

Looks great man, you made a good choice. How much did the muffler set you back? I see them on ebay for $300.:notgood:

BTW I like the color of your car.:thumb:

Common misconception.
Back pressure has nothing to do with our cars, turbo or not... if its fuel injected, it needs NO back pressure.

correct!

This thread explains it perfecly

Thank you, I was tired of hearing everyone talk about loosing back pressure.... READ THE LINK !

And as for the pics of the car, looks really clean , not too ricey, only you need now is a 4g63T engine in there instead of that 420a ... I like that little DC sports strut bar under the car on top of the exhaust pipeing. Where did you get that from/ how much it cost, and curious if they make those for 1gs? ( Because I was thinking about welding custom strut bars and chasis bars myself... Does that bar connect to the bottom of the rear strut area ? )

My plans for a 4g63 swap will come in the near future. A 17 year old can only save up so much.

I got the rear lower dc strut bar from my local motorsports shop, it was around $140, and i dont think they make the rear lower dc for 1st gens but im sure u can find other brands for your car.

its the same for the left side but i cant get a shot of it because the muffler is in the way

You don't ever scrape your exhaust going under the rear axle like that? I have my bend over the top.

Love my GST exhaust. I'm actually planning on using the 2.5"ID madrel piping from a Greddy Evo system I picked up cheap with the GST muffler for a sleeper look. I'm done with fat-ass, cop-attracting fart cannons; regardless of name brand or quality. The stocker does me just fine.

^^^

I'm not a big fan of coffee can mufflers either. But I bought my car with the magnaflow on it already with a tasteful oval tip. Kind of like the Lexus IS300 has, just more balls.

Nope, never had a problem. It would be nearly impossible to scratch the piping that runs underneath the suspension because the bend is right where the wheels are at

That's what I thought about my downpipe... ;)

THIS IS WHAT I THINK ABOUT SWAPPING YOUR MOTOR. :beatentodeath: die die die!

looks good.

then again the downpipe isnt exactly where the wheels are at, more like 2 feet infront

Yeah but what I mean is it also sits higher than your exhaust routed under the rear axle despite being further up, so I thought I wouldn't have that problem. One day down an uneven road...

But if it works for you... :thumb: Definately the cheaper way to route than custom over the axle where it barely fits a 3". I paid to have that redone just in case. But my muffler is also more oval and less cylindrical than yours, so it's consistent with the low profile for my needs.

i like it man looks sweet...... im going for the ebay special on my muffler though and having my local shop get me 2.5 in pipes already has a high flo cat wit a cat back system i just want bigger pipes!

You're in So. Fla., right? Miami Muffler can mandrel bend any size piping (from 1" to 5") and build a complete exhaust for a very reasonable price. Last I heard, they charged somewhere around $300.
