Grinding Tranny....

I revcently had an issue with my reverse....it wouldnt go in all the way but as ieased off the clutch it would grind and fall into place. Next thing i knew i heard a grinding in my passenger side area while accelerating. I then put my car on a jack and let the wheels run in first to see what was up. There was a light grinding in the transmission area. That alone should have been a BLARING red light but no, not me. Tonight on my way home from work i was in second and my shifter fell into neutral....ok...odd...so i held it in place and next thing i heard was a LOUD grinding noise. I pulled into a driveway and looked at my tranny. Big hole around where i indicate in the attached image. At this point, i juat wanna know what MAY (speculation and "I dont really know but...." answers accepted) have caused this.

Right where the red is on your picture is where the 5th and reverse are, seems like a weird place for a tranny to break. I would just pull that side cover off the tranny and see whats under there. The first thing that should come off is a gold ring, I'm wondering if that didn't slip off somehow and then get caught up in the rest of the gears causing a huge mess of chipped parts in there.

That is correct. 5th and reverse is behind that cover. I could pull the cover off. Its just those 14mm bolts. And take a look. Possible blew the hub slider. Maybe more. Only way you'll know for sure is when you pop that cover off. And make sure you send pics

Yea, already sent the car to the shop, tranny is TOAST. The fluid was very watery and looked like the silver sparkly paint you let your kids play with. New tranny be on the way tho
