hey guys-

ive got a problem when i make right hand turns. i can feel in the steering wheel a grinding sensation. i cant really notice it as much when i turn left or when im parked with the car on and i turn the steering wheel back and forth. i asked guys at the auto parts store and they told me that the rack is probably going out. i looked to see if i could see anything myself, and i did notice the boot on the lower arm ball joint has been ruptured. could it be something of that nature? any help would be great. thank you

eric

Has the recall been done? In any event, you don't want a ball joint to fail. The only exception is when you loan your car to your mother in law.

sorry man, but im not understanding when you ask if the recall has been done. i didnt know there was a recall.

I'm gonna say it's probably the ball joint also. The wheel bearing won't make much noise if you're parked but it'll make a racket when you're moving.

ill have to raise the car first thing in the morning and see if it is the wheel bearings. thank you all for the replies and keep them coming if anyone else has any idea on what it might be. thanx again guys! :thumb:

The rupture in the boot is your problem. There should be bearing grease in the boot !
When the boot is torn/open moisture and whatever else gets in there decreasing the grease. Sooner or later you will hear a loud noise that sounds like Big Bird in your car when you turn. I had the same problem and all i do is stick some ball bearing grease on a thick screwdriver and pack it in there. No more noise and no more grinding.
Thats only a temp. solution. You should get a Boot and put grease in there and seal it up w/ the ties that come w/ the kit.

If you wait till winter to do this the noise will get so loud, people in buildings will be able to hear you a 100 yards away !

okay then, thats what ill have to do as well for a temporary fix. what is this kit that you speak of? is this a difficult fix? will i have to get an alignment done after i put this kit on?

thank you!

eric

Search for "ball joint recall" and read everything you find. Your ball-joint will be replaced for free and you really really really should not drive a car with a questionable ball-joint.

the mechanic said my 1G needed a new wheel hub replacement...I haven't driven it much, but I also don't know if it is something I will need right away or not...the car definitely will make noises when I turn..what is the danger of holding it off for a while?? I will probably just pay a mechanic to do it anyway

i failed to mention that also when braking, the steering wheel also shakes violently. ( when i brake fairly quickly ) im sure that problem is just a rotor needing to be turned, but i thought id add that in and make sure. okay thanx guys!!!
