So a while back, I bought a Greddy stainless upper intercooler pipe for my car that fit with my stock side mount intercooler. It was a 2 piece kit. Only problem was that I had an HKS BOV. I had to end up buying a $55 dollar adapter so I could use my valve. Anyways, i noticed last week that the new valve had scratches all over it and there were scratches and a huge dent on the underside of the hood because the valve stuck up too much.

So being that the car has like no scratches and less than 65k original miles, you can imagine this pissing me off. Now I have to buy another hood. I also have to get rid of the Greddy pipe to buy another UICP.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what UICP i should buy that would work with the HKS SSQV and the side mount intercooler? Like cheapest route with good quality ect as well.

Thanks

The damage from your bov being too high is so severe your hood needs to be replaced? :hmm:

Anyways, I would consider getting a different UICP or using a Greddy type valve and selling the HKS. The HKS will sell, the Greddy pipe will not. Well it might but anyone who's had one knows it was not a good investment.

I say ditch (sell) the hks valve and adapter and get a greddy bov or stock 1st gen bov. You can get these all day on here from $50-$150. This way no butchering and will be cheaper than getting new uicp! good luck and keep us updated :thumb:

Why not? It's not a bad pipe, if you're running a SMIC it works just as well as any other.

That particular Greddy arrangement is $50 less than my brand spanking new VRSF kit.

So, that, and the ebay version is available for $50 and that works just as well for a stock smic. It's just poor value with a proprietary flange you can't alter without cutting/welding. There are vendors that produce parts like this for quite a bit less with any flange you want. These options are not just cheaper, they're routed better and have less fitment issues with intakes/filters/fuseboxes etc... Though if I recall the Greddy does have pretty good fitment - just not for a guy that lives in CA.

The Greddy pipe set is not inherently bad, just not good when you have so many other options.

I have found a new use for my Greddy uicp though, I'm going to chop it up and use the section near the throttle body, after the bov, to hook up to a davebrode/rre design. Just need a good coupler..

Cheapest way out: keep the pipe, buy a 1g bov, drill new holes on it and you're all done. 1g bov can be made to fit on the Greddy flange.

Well, I doubt he bought it new, they're always for sale used for about 50$ so value wise if it used, not too shabby :p

Now we're talkin! I see no cause for immaculate, brand name setups when you're just tooling around with a stock smic. Besides, the Greddy ship has sailed. Our other vendors need our support to get theirs in return. Save the $$ for the ETS setup. :D

Post pictures of the damage done by the bov on the hood.

I doubt it got it dented, unless you forced the hood down.

As you can see there are multiple ways to go about fixing your problem. If you decide to go with a different bov I suggest checking the latest classified ads on this site. I got a good type s valve for $70 and have seen 1st gen bov's on there going for around $50.

I'd keep the hks, my type-s and type-rs leaked after rebuilds too. My hks has never leaked, no adjustments needed either?

The hood is dented and yes I am paranoid about little things like that but, I planned on investing in a carbon fiber hood anyways. But I have more important things on my mind to modify than the hood right now. I also originally planned on getting a Greddy Type S but I can't find a good one for less than $200.

WTF

Have you looked on the classifieds?

I sold mine for $100? like 2 months ago.
I assure you that at least once a week someone will have one FS.
