I just got a greddy type s off ebay for my 92 tsi talon. I put it on the other day and took it for a drive and it sounds exactly like my 1g bov did, only a bit louder and crisper. I tried it with the recirc tube on and off and it never had the whistle like all the type s bov's have that I have heard, I even played around with the adjustment screw and that didn't change the sound much. Why doesn't my bov have the signature whistle of the type s? Thanks.

Try playing around with the adjustment screw a little more. I'm running 15 psi on a T25 and mine is only in maybe 3-4 complete turns and it doesn't leak. Good Luck you'll ove it when you get it right :thumb:

Thanks, I'll try to mess around with the spring rate a little more and see if it changes anything. I was going to go out more but though it would leak so now it is in almost the whole way, but still opens up when I let off so I know it's not too tight, but I just want it to sound cool without leaking. Does the screw actually come out if you go so far, or does it just stop, I'll try to get 3-4 turns in and see how it sounds.

The screw will come all the way out but goes right back in. Just make sure you tighten the lock nut so it doesn't move.

Hey!

Just my three cents...

I installed the greddy upper piping kit today together with the Type S BOV. All I can tell you is that you need to play around with the screw, and you will get there..

I adjusted the screw a dozen times, to try and make it feel perfect...(newbie) I did not adjust it to get the sound but to get the right spring pressure not to be to tight nor too loose... By doing that I think I have got it now and the BOV makes a nice high pitch whistle.. Not at all like to stock BOV... I also feel a small, but significant, difference of power, I think mainly due to the Upper IC piping.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I just need to play around with the screw a little more and maybe I can get it to that perfect spot eventually. I'm running a stock ic system right now but am waiting on an upper ic pipe to get here soon, so I just drilled 2 more hole in the stock flange and bolted the Greddy to that. Thanks for all your input. :thumb:

as for the recirc tube... leave it on!
Yeah I am definatly leaving the recirc tube on, the car ran like crap without it. By the way how's your car doin?

LOL.. didn't even notice it was you.. haven't talked to you in a while.

car is running better then it ever has. got little things to do here and there but the walbro pump i got helped out ALOT

as for your greddy bov, what psi are you boosting? i noticed that it sounds very different when venting different psi.

Good to hear the Laser runnin good. I'm boosting 16psi now until I get a new knock sensor to eliminate my pk issues, then it's going back up to 18psi.

16psi is more then enough to get a long whistle sound...

truth of the matter is a lot of it is muffled by recirculating it.... time to get a maf-t

adjusting the screw won't really change the sound.. it adjusts the spring tension, and you want to keep it tightened enough to hold the psi you run at plus an extra 5psi or so to be safe. that should give you the optimal bov opening.

Yeah a maf-t is in the works, I have the sensor and an intake to use, I just need the translator and my Slowboy frontmount kit, then I'll be venting. All that should happen within the next couple of months. Give me a call when your in the area, we'll hang out sometime. Later.

I've got a 97 GSX with hard IC piping and injen intake pipe. It makes my turbo spool loud enough as it is, would I be able to hear a Type S alot better while recirc with hard pipes rather than stock rubber?

The hard piping would make the blowoff valve sound louder. I got my hard intake pipe while I still had the stock bov on and I know I could hear a difference. The hard uicp would make it even better I would think, the sound can vibrate off the metal pipes whereas the stock rubber just absorbs most of it. I'll be making my own 2.5" uicp soon to complement the intake and hopefully make the Greddy louder and give me a little more power. :thumb:

The adjustment screw does affect the sound (as does hard IC piping and an open filter element as already stated) I had mine too tight and although it didn't flutter under a full boost discharge, the whistle wasn't as apparent. I backed it off some, which helped my compressor surge problem in first some and now the whistle is a long lingering sound that even changes pitch at the end like a weird echo. But it will still flutter at low boost disharge.

It is annoying and tedious, but you have to keep playing around with it to find the sweet spot for your car.

Yeah I'll just have to find the perfect spot for my car and make my uicp, then I should be happy with it. :thumb:

What's the key to adjusting it? Do you guys just keep tightening the screw until it doesn't open up or what? I think mines pretty close I just don't know what to look for or how it should "feel".

Get in car with tools to adjust the bov. Drive, boost....flutter? Pull over, adjust it 1/4 turn.... Drive, boost.....little bit of flutter? Pull over, adjust another 1/4 turn.... Drive, , boost.....psshhhhhhhht and no flutter. Not much else to do but have fun after that and spend more money on the beast. :thumb: :talon:
