Yeah, I've heard the nightmares about the Greddy Type-S leaking. So I got the Type RS. Well I put that bad boy on and I believe it leaks. You can hear the turbo spool, but then at around 15psi, power dies and you hear a noise that I sounds like a "screaming whistle"... make your mouth like you are going to go "shhhh", and like you are going to whistle with your lips. Breath out hard, and there you go, that's almost the sound! Granted the T-25 ISN'T good for much boost, but it's when you hear the sound, the power dies... and it's NO turbo sound I've heard (and YES I've heard the death whine before). There are 2 other reasons I believe this to be the BOV:

1.) It only happens in 3rd-5th gear. With the stock T-25 I guess 1st and 2nd go through the RPM's too fast, and the pressure falls off too fast to cause the BOV to leak. Everything is good in those 2 gears.

2.) The BOV is tightened to about 4 threads showing! Now that is B-A-D and I know it. But the less it is tightened, the earlier it leaks as you go through the RPM's... the pressure loss really doesn't change, though. In fact, at first when I installed it, 2nd gear made that sound... up until about the point where it was tightened 1/2 the way down.

3.) No leaks in the I/C piping.

4.) Actually if I'm not hitting boost at around 4k RPM's in 3rd gear, then I floor it, there wont be a sound, cause just like 2nd, boost falls off as the T-25 can't pump air.

I'd like some input on this, cause my searches on 3 different sites showed NO ONE's RS was leaking... just the Type-S's. And this thing comes with teh 2 springs already! Thanks guys...

I'm pretty sure my RS holds at least 20-24 PSI on the stock setting without leaking. Originally I thought it was leaking, but I'm pretty sure I just have a boost leak elsewhere. I will be doing leak testing within a week or so (30+ PSI), I will correct this if it does indeed leak.

To me it sounds like a boost leak. I had one before and it sounds very similar to what you are talking about. Do a boost leak test and if you hear the noise around the bov, check the fittings and the slip fitting that your bov is in since it is only plastic and may need some sort of sealant. What is that "slip fitting" that you are talking about??

Well, I wont be getting my leak tester for a while it seems... so if anyone can offer something other than check for IC pipes leaking, post it and I'll take it into consideration. If not, than don't worry about it. Not to be rude, but if I can't take the most obvious thing and test it, than what's the point. I'm not gonna seem like I'm trying to blow anyone off.

Again, sorry. BUT if you can think of something, post it, and I'll listen!

I had a prob with my type s, thought it was the BOV itself, turned out to be the gasket, i never used any sealant on it(yes I'm retarded) so check that and if that isn't it, go make yourself a Leak tester, and don't go past 20 psi when testing. unless your car is running more.

I think he was assuming that you were installing it onto the stock 2g uicp. It looks like from your profile you have an aftermarket hard uicp? If so you have the correct greddy flange and you did put a gasket on when you installed the bov? (or replaced the old one). Like has been said its probably a boost leak, but its probably leaking at the flanges. Make your own boost tester & find the leaks (can get the parts from a local hardware store for $20)

daren p that is exactly what i was talking about. sorry i didn't look at your profile about the hard uicp :p Brandon [VFRacing]

Did you put a gasket on when you put the BOV on?
Is your boost dropping off when you hear this noise?
Have you checked for shaft play yet?

I don't understand why you have to wait a couple weeks to get your boost leak tester. They cost like 5 bucks to make... You might want to try and meet up with some other local DSM'ers and see if you couldn't borrow one or get one of those guys to help you out.

Well I run the RS and i'm running 27psi and have no problem with it all the way pass REDLINE. like 8600 :sneaky: . I'm very surprise and happy with it.

Hmmmm... shaft play. Didn't think about that one yet. I'll have to try it. (God I hope not!)
Yes, it is the correct flange for the Greddy. Again, Dejontool MAFT piping. ;)
Yes, I used the gasket that came with the BOV.
NO, I used no gasket sealant. Didn't think I would. And I don't remember seeing it in the instructions either, but I'm dumb!
As for my leak tester, I do have one!! But I lent it out to a friend. I harassed him nicely, though, and will get it back Monday, but I wont be able to use it til Tuesday (I'm moving). That's why I didn't go make another one. I just lent it out for a while.
Yes, boost falls off when I hear the sound.
I'll post more on the results of everyone's ideas on Teusday, when I get time to work on this.
Til then, THANKS!! And keep up the good suggestions. I'll take 'em all into consideration.
