So was woundering if the imformeter was a good logger to start with. I will be getting into tunning soone and just want to start logging to learn what I would be tunning.

So any tips would be greatfull :thumb:

Looking at your mod list i'd say just get DSMlink and have tuning and logging on lock. I dont' know anything aboutthe "intformer", but what i do know is i've dealt with way too many Greedy Emanage systems that suck ass no matter what (those who are happy with them either make no power to know any better or are lying to themselves because of the money tey spent on that POS) sorry to be blunt about it but i'm passionate about management and logging and Greddy has some of the most overpriced worthless crap i've ever seen to tell the truth.

Yea,they did some magazine cars and such with their stuff on them but don't be fooled by that hype, go with what's proven and put it this way.. I am the type to not like stuff like DSMlink at all, and just a little time messing with their new V3 and i was blown away, you just can't go wrong, incredible logging, tuning and ability to enable/disable all sorts of codes, re-route OEM solenoids for aftermarket functions and more, completely stealth yet amazingly capable (i'll admit a year ago on older versions i would have just said "dsmlink is ok, but no where near as good as it should be for the price")well believe me they changed that and the improvements that have come along and the price staying low, you just can't go wrong with this for 98% of DSM'ers

I would suggest ceddymod. It's 3 times cheaper and more than you will ever need. It uses your stock ecu and obdII port so you don't have to mess with any wiring.

To reflash your ecu

Get this cable with the mitsubish adapter Tactrix Openport 2.0

This software (free) Download EcuFlash

and this add-on for ecuflash (also free) http://ceddy.us/

To datalog you can use the above cable or a a $15 cable http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vag-Com-USB...Fast-USA-VAG-409-/180793156712#ht_3999wt_1163

you can use MUTmonitor (free, but so so) Mut Monitor V1.9 Release 31/1/2009 - evolutionm.net

or
Evoscan ($25 and AMAZING) EvoScan OBDII Mitsubishi Subaru DataLogger Scantool

Total cost of $205, it's plug and play, and you get full control of your ecu. The tactrix cable also has a slot for microsd, so you can still datalog with no laptop.
Its $40 if you want to just log.

ed1380..another great piece of advice, I hear so little on the Ceddymod anymore i find your post here usefull for some of my own needs on customer and friends cars, thanks man.

One question, doesn't this require he have an eprom ECU which are hit and miss in 2g cars (don't know how available in 1g cars honestly as this is the least practiced route in my own tuning expeiences, but something i'm highly interested in) I fell off the GM thing but was almost to where i could take older GM ecu' and make them into stand alones for about anything and want to learn to the same extent on the DSM ECU;s PM me if you don't want to put it here out of cluttering but any info on this would be nice)

Im surprised so many people dont use it much. Its almost as if its the only option for dsms. The eeprom ecu's came on the 95 and they're the ones used for ecmlink. Ceddymod used the plastic ecu's that came on 98-99 and some 97. You can tell by a beige plug by the obdII connector. That plug has just one wire that is used only when reflashing the ecu. Datalogging is done through just the obdII connector. Also the cheap $15 cable can log slightly faster than the tactrix cable, which is perfect if you want to just log. And vag-com is a lifesaver if you have a vw/Audi.

Evo ecu's are an upgrade over the plastic dsm ecu. They have more maps and a couple more goodies. They plug right in, just need to swap a few wires on the connectors. There are people that use the plastic ecu in 1g. Just need a harness adapter.

You can also log wideband and how ever many inputs you have. I don't have much experience in that. But for example the rear o2 input is used for widebands. You just change the formula to interpret raw data into the correct scale. The evo forums are much more informed about ecuflash.

I'd like to get a black plastic ECU and build a wire harness from scratch that i could put my engine simulation bed backlk together (sounds fancy but just a small electric motir with control of speed to run a CAS, then i have LED's that barely flicker on the spark and fuel events )

But that would let me play with learnign this and then be able to slap it onto a DSM and maybe do something new and enjoyable fo a while.. I would have to get a pin out of what wires it needs from the OBD-II and the wire to flash it so i could incorporate those into the harness, but i think it would be fun.. i have the OEM harness ends from my car (ECU TOO) and the OBD-II and other plugs are still there just not hooked to anything, i just need a black ECU...hmmmmm

The black ecu's are 100-120 on the forums. Sometimes cheaper on eBay when sold by someone who doesn't know of their special abilities.

I'd love to build a harness for one and use it in a kit car.

The evo ecu can be flashed with the tactrix 1.3u cable (its cheaper)

I dont know anything about tuning. I am good at putting parts on repairing things, mainly mechanical. Not at all computer smart. I just need a good 1st step in the door. I hear that the link is hard to learn on. I was honestly thinking of safc for tuning eventualy, but my goal is only like 250 - 300. 300 is a little high for me. I auto cross a fwd so traction is important. And yea nothing realy on my mod list cause im just about done with fixing the car to decent shape after previous owner messed it up.

I second using EvoScan and ECUFlash in conjunction with the maps Ceddy has put together in his Ceddymods pack. It works great.

I also used the Evo 8 ECU in my car. It was nice because they have more features figured out for it, but I had this odd misfire while running speed density around 3000rpm that bugged me.

It is perfect because you can get the $15 cable and log for now until you're more comfortable with the software. I would suggest to buy the tactrix cable instead of a safc. It'll give you infinitely more options to tune instead of just tricking the ecu. It will also give you the ability to use launch control and NLTS(no lift to shift)

I agree, there's so much more on the net a far as wlk throughs on how to learn and setup these reflash programs that it's getting really easy for some one new that has a decent understanding of how the engines run and a good understanding of basics like pulse width and what a typical ignition curve looks like to where they can start to experiement in small steps safely, and then move on to more radical tuning and compensating the AFR's and timing advance for changes/upgrades made else where. Then you get to really having fun and being comfortable you can start turning on the NLTS (no lift to shift) and control a nitrouse shot or water injection from telling the ECU to turn them on and off based on variables you give it.

IT's honestly faster of a learning curve with speed density, it's just one simple table of values on a spreadsheet that is RPM in one and vacum/booost on the other so you can say "i was lean at 5500 RPM and 15psi, go there on the spreadsheet/MAP and raise the values in that are and those close to it and boom YOUR TUNING!! LOL.

Now MAF tuning (mass air flow sensor) you have usually 2-3 main maps/calibration tables for tuning where as MAF tuning you have more variable that play a large roll in proper running of the car that it's often not so easy for beginners to diagnose and tune out lean spots and bucking sometimes) plus on SD you can just pull that big restrictive thing off cause its not needed and makes the plumbing of custom air filter locations or jsut a cone

Tuning maf in ecuflash is almost as easy as your sd example. The only difference is that your x axis is load instead of boost. And since boost pretty much = load then you just need to look at your logs where to make changes

I will start looking into this and do some research about it. But all that map, spreadsheete, ignition curvs and so forth, that is all like a diffrent language. I do have a buddie, (well he is more or less a guy that lives near me that I bought injectors from) he might be willing to show me how to start tunning, he said he can tune with just about anything.

I will start clicking through all the links you posted, and start my journey.

Thanks guys.

Just do some searching on ceddymod tuning you'll find threads or webpages where they walk you through and explain things to you with pictures step by step (or at least most tuning solutions of this sort there's some onewho's done this for others.. maybe ed1380 can even point you to that site, or it may heve been in the links/pages he provided above i aven't videted them all yet
