Good deal on turbo?

Hey guys I own a 99 Eclipse GS. With headers, cai, and exhuast. I found this deal on craigslist:

Eclipse turbo setup - $75

I have the bolt on setup including the 02 sensor, just bolt it on and go. its out of my 97 Mitsubishi eclipse gst, it will also fit the eagle talon tsi, you can call me at XXX-XXX-XXXX anytime after 2:00 pm or text me at anytime. Thanks

Cant really use it if it actually came out of a stock gst. Maybe just the turbo but you will probably need to fabricate a manifold

I think it is going to be involved than simply using that stuff. The turbo itself, yes it can be used, but you will need a new manifold and most, if not all of the intercooler piping is going to be modified or replaced. You will need to fabricate oil lines and tap into your oil pan.

Check out some of the 420A "going turbo" threads here for more information. I'm not hating on your N/T, I own a 97GS as my DD, it is a dependable car. Just go into it with eyes wide open: turbo'ing this will not be plug and play!

With all of that said, if the turbo and intercooler are good they are definitely worth $75.

Well see the 1st gen guys have both turbo and naturally aspirated versions of the 4g63 so it's easier for them to swap parts. In the case of the 2nd gen, like yours, the turbo guys have Mitsu 4g63, where as you have the 420a engine. These are two completely different engines so you can use the turbo and intercooler but all piping will have to be custom

Is it a good deal? Perhaps, if the turbo isn't junk like most used T25's are.

Is it a good deal for you? No.

Why?

• Manifold won't fit.
• o2 housing won't fit because the turbo will be facing the wrong direction. The o2 housing outlet will be facing the front of the car.
• Turbo is designed to have the inlet on the passenger's side of the car while your car will favor a turbo that is set up to have the inlet on the driver's side.

^^This (that's why he's a wiseman). You would basically get a turbo out of the deal and if he's selling the whole setup for $75 you can bet its smoked. IMO take your time building a turbo kit that works for you and what you want out of your car and start doing a lot of reading on what you need... This should help.

First off all the mods that you have done to the car will come off the car if you mod it. They pretty much do nothing anyways. I think you need to do ALOT of research in the 420a threads. Max boost(lb.min of air), fuel mods, engine management, fabrication. The ECU was never designed to notice boost. SOOO it was never in the code to add fuel if the manifold pressure gets above 0 atm, 0psi(technically 1 atm or 14.7 psi but what ever). So there are some ways to get the fuel to the cylinders. Do your research and find out which route you want to take.

Watch out for the "advice" that the 4g63 guys give. Sometimes it's good but most of the time it's bias. I would hang out in the 420a section more if I were you and you can post in the 420a bolt-tech section to get help from guys that have turboed their 420a's even with your new member status. Also you don't "need" to build your car for boost as stock internals and ecu will work fine up to 8psi. Your list looks pretty good just know that some odds and ends are going to pop up. Poke around in the 420a turbo section to do some more reading also take a look at this.

Also you can still use your cat back, however, cai and header will not be used.

Only reason I suggested building the car up is because 8 psi on a potentially "big" turbo may not be enough for him

In other words OP it depends on what you need out of the car. By all means visit those links Shake_Zulla gave you. Those will be the most helpful to you at this point.

Pretty much only the turbo. Ic pipes wont work as the two different engines set different in the bay. 420A's timing belt is on passanger and 4G63's on driver. Only other thing I can think of is a catback. My only advice is to plan out your attack before you drop any coin. BTW I hate people who drive cougar's... Good luck

I would look for someone upgrading their turbo and selling their old one from a 420A. Check the buy and sell section on this forum and on 2gnt.com. I saw a guy on there who was selling almost a complete Hahn stage 2 for about 1300 bucks a month ago.
