Getting alternator rebuilt..

I just came back from the shop, the guy quoted me 78bucks final price. Alternator had to be rebuilt cause it didnt charge the battery.
Anyways, while i was taking out the alternator, there was soo much oil residue under the car. I used to have a leaking gasket but i got that fixed.
Also, the alternator was all greasy too, and i asked the mechanic if he could check it to see if it really is the alternator that is wrong. He looked at the alternator and said yea, its dirty, and all those oil will make it go bad.

How can i remove all those oily spots? And is the 78dollar worth the deal? i dunno bout the warranty.

Heavy duty electrical contact cleaner, Call around for pricing (parts stores) for a rebuilt that was done professionally, which is already cleaned by the remanufacters, painted and all pretty. If it works for $78 then it works what more do you want, they aren't that hard to rebuild anyways, the hardest part is getting the rebuild kit. What will really matter is how worn the slip ring commutator is worn, aka the surface the brushes ride on.
