Hey guys, need some input on this... I just bought a car with a salvage title without realizing it until it was too late, yeah I got burned but thats not the point
.. The car is 100% driveable and everything is 100% functional, it just has some body damage to the rear quarter panel and door. I have to take it to get the inspection to get a rebuilt title but I haven't made any repairs. Does anyone have experience with this? Are they going to nitpick the body damage or do they typically look past it if the car is 100% driveable and functional? The door opens and closes fine and the window rolls up and down.
I know each state has its own regulations but this is in Ohio and my buddy says he has done this before with a car that had body damage and it passed with no problems but that seems weird that they would issue a rebuilt title on a car that hasn't actually had the repairs made. I'll get a picture up as soon as I can for a visual.
Please let me know if you have had experience with a similar situation or if you personally know someone who has because I have no experience with this and don't want to pay more than one inspection fee.
Even if I have to get a new door and pound out the rear quarter its not that big of a deal, the damage just doesn't bother me and I wouldn't want to spend time or money repairing it if I don't have to because its going to be my winter beater and I'm going to keep it and drive it til the wheels fall off because it wouldn't be worth selling. Its a 2000 Olds Intrigue that i picked up for $1000 if that matters at all. I talked the guy down from $1500 but had I known it had a salvage title when I was looking at it i would have offered much less. Live and learn I guess, make sure you look at the title BEFORE negotiating.
Thanks in advance for any advice! Hope you guys had a good Christmas and are going to have a new years to remember!
