I get in to drive go down the road floor it for maybe 5 seconds and when i left off the gas...car keeps going! It only happens at wide open throttle. Sometimes it does it for only a few seconds and stops but other time for longer.

I almost go in an accident when I was approching a stale greenlight. i forgot and floored it to make the light but then it went yellow so i go to let off the gas and it kept going. light turns red so im forced to push in the clutch and slam on the brakes. the engine bounced off the rev limiter a whole bunch and finally stopped. I ended up half way in the intersection before stopping, luckily it had just went red so the cross traffic was still going slow enough to see me and stop.

Im thinking it may be the throttle cable because its a car with cruise and there is so much cable and motors and stuff between the gas pedal and the throttlebody. Also i checked the springy-ness of the throttlebody and it was fine, but the throttle cable seemed kinda loose.

Anybody have this problem? Any ideas? HELP! THIS PROBLEM IS DANGEROUS :thumbdown

Make sure your throttle cable is routed correctly around the groove on the throttle body. Make sure nothing is in the way of the mounting point on the TB.

This happened to me after I compression tested my car, and the cable on the TB worked its way out of the groove.

Also make sure your throttle cable isnt too tight. I could be pulling the butterfly open too far.

for right now, if it happens again, just shut off your engine, push the clutch and slam the brakes

err or not hit the throttle really hard. my dirtbike had a problem like that for a bit because i had a problem with the cable. Check everything that connects to the throttle cable, does ur pedal stay on the floor when u pick ur foot up?

This same exact thing just happened to me today on my way to work!
I went wot to pass up a car and when i let off it kept accelerating. Turns out the pedal got hung up by my floormat  If you have a floormat check to make sure it's not sliding forward and catching the pedal when you floor it.

you could also check the vacuum lines around the tb. this happened on the girlfriends car and scared the piss out of her. the got hung up in the butterfly mechanism.

cool ill check those things out tommorow. if nothing works i may try converting to a non cruise cable.
