Hey everyone, I currently picked up a 95 talon TSI AWD with a spun rod bearing. I am doing a full rebuild on it. I will be adding a MBCAD kit, all necessary steps on the block (at a machine shop), adding aftermarket rods ( since they are weaker on the 2G's), and decent pistons. IS there anything else i should take into account? I also have a 16g turbo laying around and want to put it on while the engine is out of the car. Will there will be negetive consequences about this? I will add a boost controller to keep the boost down past 16, until i have the supporting mods. This car isnt my daily driver, so time and money can always wait.

You could always eliminate the balance shafts, a common fail point. Also, a cometic head gasket, head studs, rod bolts, by ARP. If you are going for top-end the 1g head swap or 1g intake manifold swap is the perfect time to do so, because good luck pulling it while the motor is in the car. I'm rebuilding my motor myself right now, and I'm going through this EXACT same checklist in my head. Regarding the 16g, you should be fine under 14 psi, without any supporting mods, and logging equipment like wideband, etc, you should not take any risks whatsoever.

I am going with ARP everything, might as well do it now than later. I will probably end up going with eagle rods. why would you consider a 1g intake manifold swap? Once I do get all the bolt on supporting mods, what logging software/ electronic equipment will i need to run the 16g at its full potential? I know about the size of the injectors and the fuel pump needed. Should I just go with the DSMlink v3? After the rebuild the engine should be able to hold up to 500hp.
