So I'm pulling apart my transmission and lo and behold I have a gear puller! But it doesn't fit. The gears are too close for it to fit in properly and therefore I had to prybar out on the transmission and go to town. I got it from Advance Autoparts.

So anyone that has effectively gotten the gears off of a transmission, what gear puller did you use and where did you get it?

Snap on makes a gear puller set that will work for removing the 5th gear on the intermediate shaft, it costs somewhere around $300. As far as removing the 5th gear on the input shaft (it's actully the hub that's splined on the shaft) I use two or three prybars and be very carefull not to chip the gear. You can also use prybars to remove the 5th gear on the intermediate shaf but again you must be extremely carfull the gear will chip real easy.

Good luck :thumb:

$300 eh? WOOOWWW!! Well I guess its prybars for us common folk then!
