I want to change my cluster bulbs to leds but the bulbs are pretty much stuck in there. I have tore my skin trying to get them out. no avail.

anyway I came across this:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HHJICS4/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A21X3HPE9R7I8U

As you all know the redline ends at 9k rpms. however this one ends at 8k rpms. I was wondering if I would have any problems because I would be missing another 1000 rpms. you know like a miss read of the actual rpms?

or if anyone knows a trick to get the standard bulbs out of the cluster sockets that would be great too! ive tried wiggling the bulb in every direction, ive tried wearing gloves for better grip. idk what else to do with that except buy new sockets but I feel like there is a better way

any help would be appreciated

I believe the bulbs twist and pull out. As for the inlays, You are going to have to pull the needles off in order to get them in. Before you do, Take note to where the rpms sit at idle, and where the water temp is at normal operating temp. Fill your gas tank! Once the needles have been taken off you are going to have to reset the needles.

Another option that others have done is carefully sand the back of the stock inserts and use stained glass paint to make it look how you want. I sanded a set of stock inserts and used red fix-a-light tape on the back. I also have a set of silver inserts as well that are sanded and ready for a future project.

That red line is just a color on the gage, it won't affect your rpms and will not affect anything but the look of the cluster

And keep in mind those gauges aren't for a turbo, so if your car IS turbocharged I would not recommend getting them unless your using a pillar boost gauge or something like that

Yeah, it's not turbocharged. As for the bulbs twisting out. I am able to twist the socket out, but I am having trouble disconnecting the actual bulb from the socket. Its as if they are glued into the socket(I know they aren't) If I could get the bulbs out I could actually finish the led conversion. I managed to get one bulb out. so I have one blue light and the rest are the factory color.

Ive sanded down the backs of the gauges so all I need to do is change the rest of the bulbs. The first bulb tore and burned up my skin to where I don't want to try and pry the bulbs out anymore.

The only other way I think I could do it, is to buy new sockets. or go to a junkyard, find an eclipse or talon and take those sockets and see if the bulbs are easier to take out. if so, ill pick em up for free.99.

but as of now I like the way the overlay looks, I just wanted to see if it would effect on RPM readings or anything

I just went and tested my spare sockets/bulbs and the bulbs just pulled right out of the socket with just my hands. If you don't care about the bulbs anymore, you could always just use some needle nose pliers and try to pull them out that way.

well, the thing about that is, if you squeeze the bulb to hard. the bulb will break. I tried it once and the bottom of the bulb was still in the socket. it still would not come out...:(

I know that it would bust if squeezed too hard but they really shouldn't be that hard to get out. The ones that I tested out had orange little rubber caps on them. Maybe try it with a rubber glove on the hand that you pull the bulb out with. Other than that, I'm at a loss on why they won't come out.

AWWWW I didn't know that. I always thought that they replaced the stock faces. Learn something new everyday! Thanks.
I too thought they replaced the older faces. Good to know. Ill try removing them with a rubber glove on.

Its as if I cant get a good grip on the bulb to pull it..

Try Moman in Poland....I got an EL overlay for my Evo from them...looks awesome at night.

Just wanted to update you guys and let you know that I was able to find a junker and take the sockets out of that dash. The bulbs were taken out with s much ease. I don't know why the bulbs in my sockets were stuck in them. Still have to do the gas and temp gauges, I just don't feel like messing with those right now LOL
