Is this kit (the Garrett T25bb VS. the Star Stage 2 kit with the Turbonetics T3/4 Hybrid) better? I know everyone on this site is either all about the Star or the Hahn kit but I've heard of Garrett for years. Also I went to Turbo-kits.com and the dyno chart shows the Star Stage 2 kit only produced *Max Power- 176.8 HP & Max Torque- 164.9!!! I know the 420a doesn't have alot of HP stock (140) but paying $2,800 for 36.8 HP is crazy!! Add another $500-600 it you want ball bearings!!!!!! I was told the ball bearing kit was overrated, is that true? The Garrett kit has a T25 with BB included. The site also says the turbo is capable of making up to 450HP, but I'm sure you have to fully rebuild the engine for that. So what are you guys making out there with the Star 2 kit (dyno papers to show your info??) What is your guys opinion on the Garrett kit, do you have to swap out alot of parts like you do with the Hahn?

The T25 turbo is the stock turbo found in the 2g eclipse/talon tsi/gst/gsx. In all honesty it's not a very potent turbo and I know for a fact that the t3/t4 hybrid would outperform the crap out a of a t25 anyday. Sounds like an alright kit but the turbo itsself isn't really much to get excited over.

i have said it before many times on this site and i will keep saying it till some one proves me wrong. when you buy a "turbo kit" you pay way to much. think about it. all a turbo kit is, is someone getting a whole bunch of different parts from a bunch of different manufactures and charging you an extra grand or more to put it togeather for ya. i just finished making my kit and bought every thing new off ebay(except vortech fmu) and paid less than 1300. thats with a fmic a t3 turbo and an external wastegate. so you have to make a choice 3000 or 1300. now do you really feel like paying 1700 for some instructions. btw you can find the hrc and star install instructions on line.

-"I was told the ball bearing kit was overrated, is that true?"

I don't think it's overrated at all (if you can pony up the extra cash that is) a ball bearing center cartridge will alow your turbo to spool up alot sooner; the sooner your turbo spools, the more low range power you'll be making.

Keep in mind that this is under low boost, most likely around 7-8psi. With stock internals that are setup to run a naturally aspirated car,you can't safely crank the boost up if you'd like your engine to last...the internals are simpily too weak to handle alot of pressure. With some beefier internals and what else the star kit includes, someone should be able to pull some good power out of their engine.

-"The site also says the turbo is capable of making up to 450HP, but I'm sure you have to fully rebuild the engine for that."

No matter what kind of turbo kit your running, your going to have to have a nicely built engine to be able to sustain those numbers. By the way, I agree with selmerguy, building your own kit is a hell of alot cheaper than assembled kits as well as when you build your own kit you'll be able to get the parts that you would want to upgrade from the kit parts.

If this were true, an intake, exhaust, headers, cams and all that shit would not even give you 1hp. An intercooled turbo running at 7psi producing 38hp  even at 5psi you would gain at least 40.

um lets think this through people, im sure that wasnt a crank dyno they were using. that 176.8 is whp and is oh about 55-65 hp over stock. your comparing it to our crank hp. our whp is only 110-120 stock.
