I seem to get code 43 every 1k miles or so.... I still have my egr as i love in Commifornia, and am not really trying to remove the egr, what is the cause? only thing i could find in articles was because of the ca ecu kept throwing it because they had no egr, but i also have no cat (well i do but its blown on the inside) which passed smog at all the maximum numbers, with out even the cat working, would this have anything to do with it?

I don't see why it would, as the only way the ecu can tell if the cat is working by monitoring the down stream o2 sensor. Does the 1g have a down stream o2, I don't remember seeing one. See if you can find out what conditions will trigger that cel and how does the ecu tell if it's command to actuate the egr was executed.
