I have a 97 Talon 420a and it keeps blowing the fuse for the tail lights and dash lights. How would i go about fixing this or testing to see which wire is bad? Thanks for your time.

Tool wise all you need is a multi-meter and a wiring diagram. Cheapest multi meter is around 40 bucks and 25 for a haynes manual. Knowledge wise you need to be able to read wiring diagrams and know how to use and read your multi meter (voltage drops, continuity, available voltage things like that). Fixing electrical is easy but finding the problem is the hard part.

If you are popping fuses more than likely your culprit is a short somewhere. If multi meters and wiring diagrams are out of your ball park you a really limited to visual inspections. Check all your tail light bulbs, sockets and the wires you can see for burn marks and then same with your dash lights.

If you have no luck with that then your best bet would be to get it diagnosed by a professional. A good shop will only charge one hour for an electrical diagnosis if they are any good. That will run you about the cost of a multi meter and service manual anyways. Make sure you tell them to call you before they proceed with the repair, it may be something you could fix yourself to save some money, if they found something that seams to difficult for your skill level your best bet is to let them do the repair.

Good luck

My 96 GS was doing the same thing. In my case it was two things. On my tailights, there was a pinched wire that was causing a short. They found it after they took off the entire taillight assembly. as for the dash lights, there was a wire in the stereo harness that has power but the guy i bought the car from used it as a ground so it was blowing the fuse. Hope this helps.
