I have a newly bought 92 Laser RS AWD, rebuilt the engine, ect..and have a dead fuel level gauge, so i go to take the pump cover off, and behold there are 3 broken bracket studs on the tank, and someone tried to RTV it LOL..it leaks of course..My question is that are these studs repairalbe/replaceable? Or am i going to have to find a replacement tank? Thanks for any info..

You can buy a new tank if you want but if your fuel pump studs broke then your gas tank studs might as well....I had the same problem...i marked and drilled out holes next to the studs (and was carefull not to get trash in the tank)...used some gas safe sealant and it sealed fine...no leaks...you can also use a magnetic pickup tool to hold close to where you are drilling to catch all the shavings...thats your most cost efficiant way.

My past two Talons have done this as well as many of my friends cars. Unfortunately this is all part of buying a 15 year old car. Not only do you have to deal with the problem but you also have to deal with the half assed repairs done by the would be mechanics who owned it before. You'll just have to drill them out. Be extremely careful not to get any metal in the tank while drilling the studs. Empty the tank as much as possible and leave the cap and sending unit off for a day or so to clear out any vapors. Remember gas fumes are very dangerous and explosive. Clean the gasket surface as good as possible and use a RTV sealant that is fuel resistant. I used machine screws and nuts to reseal my sending unit and my friends have used everyday sheet metal screws on theres so it's up to you. Have fun.
